Yahoo News state that fans have often giving referees abuse as they have gining the wrong decision during a soccer match, so this is hoped that fans are less likely to shout abuse and therefore could reduce the risk of football fan violence. FIFA are dubbing this the smart-ball, because if the ball crosses the goal line it will then send an encrypted message to the referee’s watch, so there is no-doubt that the decision will be right.
