Can It Compete With Second Life?

Wells Fargo has decided to take on Second Life with their new virtual world, Stagecoach Island. Having absolutely nothing to do with Second Life, this virtual world stands completely on it’s own. Despite being created two years ago, Wells Fargo has relaunched Stagecoach Island with a new look and new attitude.

The new-look Stagecoach Island will allow users to buy virtual land and build homes. So far, so Second Life right? Well as Wells Fargo is a bank, you can expect to find virtual mortgages, virtual checking accounts, virtual credit cards and you can secure virtual jobs. You even have to pay virtual taxes!

The fact that Stagecoach Island is being launched by a bank is a little surprising. But, if you think about it, what better way to teach teens and young adults how to manage their money. I’m sure Wells Fargo will get a tidy profit from it too, not to mention all the customers it will bring!

How Stagecoach Island will fare against Second Life is still in the balance, but I admire how it will teach teens and young adults life lessons - it’s not just a video game.
