Sony Taking Pre-Orders For The Super-Slim XEL-1 OLED TV
The Super-Slim XEL-1 OLED TV is not due for release until around the 1st December but as from today you can now pre-order this TV.

But sadly to say this is only the case in Japan but sony are hopeful for a US release date soon.

This TV will cost you ¥200,000 which is about $1,800 for 11-inches of set that will only last about 30,000 hours that is less than that of an LCD.

What do you think of this TV and would you buy it?

I for one have been patiently awaiting the release of this TV. The price tag is a little high, but it’s worth the price to those who want something different, something better than the next guy, and something unique. I for one will be ordering one now that I know it’s available. I’m not the guy who will tell you to buy this, because once too many people have one I’ll be getting something new; keep your projection TVs, Plasmas, and LCDs.

This is merely a first in a big future for oled. Oled has many benefits to lcd less ghosting and faster refresh rate will greatly improve 3d “shutter bug” usability. Oled is much thinner down to the thickness of paper and capable of being flexible it is also able to have a scanner or finger print reader built in to the screen. The price of oled screens is all in the proses and development the actual components are much cheaper and less toxic than that of lcd. There are even prototype systems that print oled screens with convivial ink printing technology. I think lcd’s days are numbered and will eventually be overrun by plasma on the high end and oled on the low end. Oled is already in many small systems like mp3 players, digital cameras and cell phones. I had expected laptops to be the next target but tv/pc monitors are much easer to incorporate. Never the less I wouldn’t pay $1800 for this TV but I encourage everyone else to so the technology can be furthered and in a year or two when a Chinese company offers a simaler product for $150 I will be there to snatch it up.
