HMV and Play.Com To Offer Movie Downloads

It has been reported that HMV and Play.com both have plans to launch film download services within the next six months. Play.com will offer the service within the next few weeks with HMV offering a trial service at the start of next year.

Ecommerce director for HMV Gideon Lask has said,

“Next year is going to be very important for downloadable film. We don’t want an 8-tonne gorilla to place itself in the room like iTunes did in the music industry.”

Both Amazon and iTunes already offer movie downloads in the US, and the news of HMV and Play’s plans have sparked rumours that the two giants will be launching their movie download service in the UK too.
