Sylvester Stallone To Star Alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Shutter Island?

Martin Scorsese has apparently offered the part of Chuck Aule to Sylvester Stallone in his big screen adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s Shutter Island. Stallone is still to sign on the dotted line, but if he decides to take the part, he’ll star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.

Dennis Lehane is known for his mystery novels. Two of these were adapted to the big screen, Clint Eastwood’s Mystic River and Ben Affleck’s Gone Baby Gone. I’ve not read Shutter Island, so I wouldn’t know whether Stallone is a good choice for Chuck Aule. Have you read the book? What do you think?

The official plot description follows below:

‘It’s Summer, 1954. U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels has come to a small island in Massachusetts’ Outer Harbor, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Along with his partner, Chuck Aule, he sets out to find an escaped patient, a murderess named Rachel Solando, as a hurricane bears down upon them. But nothing at Ashecliffe Hospital is what it seems. And neither is Teddy Daniels. Is he there to find a missing patient? Or has he been sent to look into rumors of Ashecliffe’s radical approach to psychiatry? The closer Teddy and Chuck get to the truth, the more elusive it becomes, and the more they begin to believe that they may never leave Shutter Island. Because someone is trying to drive them insane. . .’

The script was written by Laeta Kalogridis (Alexander, Pathfinder) and the project is being fast tracked before Martins other projects. Production is to start in March in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Nova Scotia.
