Kathy Bates and Jennifer Connelly Join The Day The Earth Stood Still

I don’t know about you but I’m just not getting excited about The Day The Earth Stood Still remake. But, it seems someone is as Jennifer Connelly and Kathy Bates have signed on to the Scott Derrickson remake.

Both Connelly and Bates are Oscar-winning actresses, which makes me think that they’ll be able to bring an extra dimension to the project.

Connelly will be playing Helen Benson (originally played by Patricia Neal), an employee of the United States Department of Commerce who meets Klaatu (Reeves), an alien who arrives on Earth warning world leaders that if their aggression continues, it will lead to annihilation by aliens who are watching.

Production will begin in Vancouver in December. The film will hit theatres on December 12th 2008.
