Back in March, Sony Computer Entertainment America held a launch party for God of War II. During the festivities, the games director Cory Barlog, blurted out that the series may be coming to the PlayStation 3 along with force feedback technology.
Talking to an excited crowd Barlog said,
“If we were to do a God of War III on the PS3…” before changing pace mid-sentence, “We’re excited about the potential–maybe, no commitment, no announcement or anything like that–to maybe have [God of War hero] Kratos in 1080p with the Sixaxis and vibration. Vibration is coming back to the PS3, that’s pretty cool, huh?”
Immediately after his announcement, the SCEA reps wouldn’t comment on a rumble-enabled Sixaxis or the possibility of God of War III on the PS3. Now, just two months after the Dual Shock 3 was revealed at the 2007 Tokyo Game Show, Sony has officially confirmed that God of War III is in development for PS3 at SCEA’s Santa Monica studio.
Don’t get too excited just yet, however, because the God of War III announcement is tainted with some bittersweet news. The SCEA has confirmed that Cory Barlog no longer works at the company’s Santa Monica studio.
The company said in a statement, “We are grateful for his work and creative vision for the critically acclaimed God of War franchise,”
It’s still unknown why Barlog left the company. He’s not shared any information about his future plans on his personal blog and he last posted in mid-October. His shock departure from the company comes just four months after God of War creative director David Jaffe announced he was leaving after working at SCEA for 14 years.

Nice… Do I hear the greatest game ever? Actually, second best, if Metal Gear Solid 4 is amazing as I know it will be
greatest game ever after “ninja gaiden”.
When you look at how those guys at SCEA Santa Monica were able to push the PS2 to the absolute limits and achieve amazing results, I’m really looking forward to seeing what they can do with all the extra horsepower under the PS3’s hood.
