Japan October Sales
The Sony PlayStation 3 console has started to make some ground on the Nintendo Wii in Japan’s October sales; the PS3 was being outsold 6-to-1 by the Nintendo Wii in Japan.

October 07 saw the PS3 close the gap, with the Nintendo Wii selling 110,415 units and the PS3 selling 47,183 units in Japan.

It’s hard to tell if this is a more long term trend until we see the next few month’s figures, but that will include the very important Christmas month.

The facts are that the Wii still outsells the PS3 2-to-1 in Japan and that might have something to-do with the price.

Nintendo are very happy at the moment as they are apparently Japan’s third-most valuable company thanks to high demand for the DS handheld player and Wii.

    Kirin,

What are you, like 5 years old. Go back to school, and learn how to speak English. Also, before you open your mouth again, I will save you the humiliation. Wal-Mart and Best Buy were both selling sub 100 dollar Toshiba HD DVD players last week. If you think that it will be a one time thing, think again. They have announced their Christmas lineup, and guess what… TOSHIBA HD DVD players for 95 dollars. Honestly!!! Do your research before opening up your pie hole.

    Have a great day!!!

How can Sony be closing the gap??? Their still selling less than Wii so its impossible to be closing the gap.Wii to PS3 ratio mite get smaller though

Truth, that $95 HD DVD player is only 1080i, it doesn’t do 1080p.

Zman the Not So Wise, all hardware manufacturers lose money on the sale of their systems, Nintendo included. Always have and always will. That’s the business model. They make it back in game sales. No one can buy a game for a system they don’t own. Hardware manufacturers would give the systems away if they could. Nintendo’s Wii costs much more than the $250 they charge to make.

No Eddie, as hard as it is to believe, Nintendo actually is making money off the sale of the Wii console itself. This website discusses it: http://www.gamespot.com/events/wiilaunch/story.html?sid=6157690

    Eddie,
You’re wrone, but I DO like what you’ve done to my name there! lol. All in good fun I guess.
