How Long Did Your Xbox 360 Last Before It Got Ring Of Death?

Every time I turned my Xbox 360 on I feared it was going to show me the 3 red lights but for a year and a half I have had no trouble - till today. I turned it on and there it was 3 red lights (AKA Ring Of Death).

I called Xbox support and explained the problem thankfully they are sending someone out to pick it up tomorrow and I was told they have a turnaround time of 15 days.

How long did your Xbox 360 last before the red ring of death set in? Or, are you lucky and have you escaped the ring of death?

I’ve had my xbox since launch (UK) and between me and about 8 friends, none of us have had any problems.
Maybe this has been more of an issue in U.S. launch units but it’s hard for me to comment on that as i don’t know any Americans to talk to and i’m yet to meet anyone where i live that’s had a problem,
I know there must have been a problem for MS to have extended the warranty but i’m not seeing any of it and I find the internet speculation of a 33% failure rate quite hard to believe, guess it would be easier to believe if i knew of someone with a faulty console (or was a Sony fanboy) but mines been going 3-4 hours a day since launch as have my mates (about half of them launch models) anyway which ever console you have i wish you happy gaming cya.

True, I have a friend that bought his on launch day and have never had a problem with it. It stays ice cold. But, I have a cousin and friend that both have had the red ring of death. And they both bought it about 2 months after it was out. So it seems to be a luck thing with the older xbox 360’s. I believe that the new chip will take care of all of these problems though.

My first 360 lasted 14 months, my second lasted 10 months, so, so sad.

I got my Xbox 360 on the release date and it last almost one year, until one morning the ring of death appeared. So I contacted Microsoft and they gave me a full refund. Then I waited and got the Halo 3 Edition Xbox 360. In the meantime I bought the Wii and PS3 to play.

I purchased my Xbox 360 in Feb 2006. Its now Nov 2007 and my xbox RROD on me yesterday…arrrgh!!!!
I have always read about the RROD and how some users have gone through 4 or 5 consoles which is a joke. I thought i was one of the lucky ones but wham it came out of nowhere. Watched Harry Potter and OOTP (call me sad) then swithced the console of. Next day turned it on and got ROOD.

I requested a repair online which was painless, receieved my UPS shipping label by email today , just need to box it up and call UPS. Shouls get it back soon as the repair centre is in Hampshire. Took of my hard drive before sending it.

Also have a PS3 but this gathers dust most of the time, my 360 gets played the most.

I had my Elite 4 months and I got the rings of death last night. I have a Gamestop warranty but right now I’m fighting Microsoft over all the content I had downloaded on Marketplace. They said I’m out of luck. This is bullshit. My advice is don’t waste your money on content from the marketplace, you’re just going to lose it when your system fails.

Nevermind, forget my last comment. My friends ice cold, launch 360 just got the rings of death two days ago, when he was trying to play cod 4. And his was the coldest one I ever seen. Microsoft is going to fix it or so he tells me.
