Devs Problems: Games use 30% Sony PS3’s Power & 60% Xbox 360’s

PS3 vs 360 Power
As we featured a really good comment the other day that was a little more on the 360’s side about Devs Problems and the lack of memory on Sony PS3, plus storage on Xbox 360.

We thought we should feature some news about games apparently using up to 30% of the Sony PS3’s Power and 60% of Xbox 360’s.

David Taylor makes this claim and even backs it up with some sources to where he got that information from.

Here is what David Taylor said:
And even though no one has a clue who this person is or if what they say holds any truth his claims will be repeated all over the place as fact by retarded 360 fanboys.

Devs who have worked on the PS3 such as naughty dog are saying they have only used 30% of the PS3s power.

According to the devs Motorstorm apparently only uses between 15% and 20% of potential:

See ps3.qj.net Under the hood of MotorStorm

EA said in December they were using 20% of the PS3s power:

See kotaku.com EA Games Use 20 Percent of PS3’s Power

On the other hand the developers of lost Planet said last year they were using 60% of the 360s power:

See the news on xbox365.com

This guy is just another hater hiding behind pseudo made up science and anonymity. There are no memory size problems at all with the PS3 if you know how to code for it. It has exactly the same amount of memory as the 360. In fact there is less of a strain on the PS3s memory because it can cache to the hard drive. Why do all these so called experts always forget about that?

The FACT remains that the PS3 is more powerful which is why Microsoft will not allow the 360 to essentially be bench marked against it in Folding@home. PS3 games are already at the same graphical level as the 360.

This statement really sums up what an idiot this guy is:

“All it will take is one REALLY good game, yet to come, on the PS3, with exceptional graphics and very heavy scripting, and it will absolutely bring that machine to its knees.”

Really? What like Ratchet & Clank did? Its also funny how Oblivion which is one of the most technically demanding games on any platform runs better on the PS3 than the 360.

Think about one important point here people. I have owned consoles from the atari 2600 days & i have never ever seen some many models come out from a console. Ps3 in one year have brang out ohhh lets see the 20 gig model, 40 gig model, 60 gig model & the 80 gig model - not even 1 year. Ps3 is finshed, its too expensive.

You buy the console for $1000au, second controller $60au, HDMI cable $80au,Blue raid controller $100au, aleast acouple of games $220 au. The toal is $1460 & i dont owe HDMI tv which means another $2000au. So to buy PS3 im looking at $3460, also if i want the bonus & 20 games, how much money will i need to pay.

    The wii is $400au & xbox 360 $4600au
With all this money you might as well buy a monster pc or take a hoilday somewhere

It’s always the same thing with you guys. “Wait and see what the wounderful Gaystation 3 can do” WAIT AND SEE? Nobody waited to see what the X-Box could do. “Wait and see-Wait and see”, yall whine more than a spoiled child. Just admit that Sony made a mistake by using the cell processor before anybody learned to program for it. Gs3 may be supperior, but if noone knows how to program and use the power it contains, then it’s all crap. A word to the wise. Life doesn’t wait around for your learning curves Sony. I can see it now, just when game designers learn to program for the cell, a new X-Box will be ready for release. Then you guys can start the winning all over again. Grow Up.”

Thats A quote btw and a classic example of an x-box fanboy AKA Pricks, Hense Gaystation. He Says That the ps3 is “wait and see” Yes you are correct but a console war is not decided in 1 year its over a period of time such as 4-5 years… So if you think the x-box has won the battle you could be very wrong… or very right Its Yet to be decided. Personally I think that x-box had better games last year but this year I think ps3 has a much better line-up of games to come… and He tells Us to “Grow up!”…

Xbox 360 owns all i got the elite which is 3 times more memoray than the ps3 and i am playing in 1080p through my hdmi lead so why waste my cash on the ps3 when the xbox has much more games out there

  4. Jeremy says:

i’ve heard a lot of people say that if games like uncharted use only 30% of
ps3 processing power, it’s a good thing. …actually it’s not. if a company is spending millions of dollars on a powerful system and only 30% of it’s power can be used, that means that sony is vainly losing its profits. sony is basically shooting itself in the foot by giving the system excess power. it also shows that the system is way ahead of it’s time and is the reason why there aren’t a lot of games on it, compared to the 360 and, more prominently, the wii. what sony should’ve done was use those extra millions to develop more 1st party titles.

Yes the SPUs can be put to work for graphics. They can do it’s own geometry engine, as the VUs did. They are the real polys, but not the rastering of them. If you have half the fillrate can do, like GC or PS2, it will not see the light of day over in rasterization. It’s not just poly movement, but cam/persepctive/lights/color/units(effects).

This is an age old lie coming from mere experience with organised set up, but it’s only organization. All computation is the same and based on what you design a unit for. If it’s from scratch like the VUs…it’s from scratch with no limits. VU1 was however hardwired, and yes that’s only to mean precoded for user, more for graphics with this same from scratch MicroCode set up.

A PC is multi purpose, and requires more. FARCRY on my PC froze all the time on 256MB and 128MB VRAM (GeForce 5700FX). Yeah yeah, but think of 64MB with internal VRAM people, also not to mention a GeForce 256/3 based card. Instincts runs on graphics that mimics the back of PC game case I got all the time, with complex shadows visible on the grounds and medium to high res textures. A console only needs the game worth, and more over the frames worth of data is why. This works the same with operations. All that nonsense was because PC software runs so much other yet at similar ops thus far as to ps2 whole CPU, and thats today. Mhz and Ghz don’t matter, it’s the equation of that times the math units or multipliers that give you the numbers.

My Ghz was still 1.7Ghz at the time (2001-2002), but with upgrade of the RAM it stopped freezing. I also tried this when I restarted the whole thing with nothing on the HDD, I installed SC:CT (splinter cell 3) and farcry again, then I still noticed the same things going on with lock up and freezing.

It was because it had not enough memory, so it had to grab from the hard drive and disc again and again.

    Hey guys,
I am trying to transfer Far Cry 2 saves from PS3 to PC. Any one here knows how?

    Greatly appreciate any feedback

Sony is obviously thinking about the future of gaming, The Xbox is thinking about the current time of gaming. In time, the Playstation is bound to do better because of what it is capable of. Why do you guys think it only uses 30% of its power? Because its waiting to release its full potential for the future.

There is no doubt the playstation is more powerful but you have to take in mind that the xbox came out first while sony was still working on this playstation so they could make it ready for the generations to come.

Its just your opinion on which system you get but mine is the playstation for a couple reasons….no RRoD, no extra fees for extra hardware, and when these next gen games come out…i wont have to upgrade anything because its ready to go.

  8. Heafy23 says:

Games like Devile May Cry 4 and Grand Theft Auto 4 would have been soooooooo much more if the developers were not hancuffed due to the lack of power the X-Toy has. These games are just prettier versions of there predeccesors and do not make that leap to the next gen of games like other franchises such as Metal Gear and Killzone did.
Examples of games like the Uncharted series and GOD war are true next gen experiences. Its just a shame that we Playstation fans have to suffer because of the X-Toy. Imagine what Devil May Cry could have been if it was exclusive to PS3 or if at least the 360 was capable of more.

  9. Heafy23 says:

It should also be noted that it is about Power… eugene.
When was the last time a game came ut on the Wii that folks just had to play and have sessions that last hours and people return to for months? The answer? NEVER… and dont try to tell me Zelda or a Mario Bros game are examples because that would be BS and you know it!
I own a Wii and its a chore even to get my kids to play anymore. The Wii is losing its alure and fast. The only reason it did what it did it because of overrated hype and more importantlty the cost. I was out with my kid on her b-day when the PS3 came out and we were at Toys r us with Grandma. Grandma was prepared to buy a nice birthday gift for her but refused to pay the price of a PS3. When we looked at the Wii she immedialty agreed to that. The first month my daughter played it quite regularly but it now is a dust collector. I have had a PS3 since the first lauch day and play it more and more every month, or at lease as much as my Wife lets me get away with, LOL.It also been a challenge to get my kids t stay away from it.

  10. Heafy23 says:

PS3 too expensive?!?! I scoff at you. The X-Toy is 399.99 with a 1 year online subscription and maybe one game depending on the bundle you choose. Plus the lack of a decent sized hard drive and Blu ray player are obvious drawbacks . The PS3 is 399.99 and you can choose from several different bundles that include truly great, next gen games and the online capability is FREE!!… FREE I TELL YOU!! You also get a high end Blu Ray player that delivers tru HD play back with FULL 1080P!! To say its ‘too expensive’ is a ludicrous thing to beleive. People pay ridiculous amounts for stupid cell phones or computers where they only use a 1/4 of what they are capable of. Wii owners have spent more that what they would have paid for a PS3 buy purchasing stupid accesories like a pretend tennis racket of golf club to put their controller in.
