Shinoda Plasma Corp. of Japan have recently announced that they will be unveiling a monster 142-inch plasma TV in the second half of 2008. In the meantime, the company have unveiled their new 86-inch prototype display module. The prototype was exhibited at CEATEC JAPAN 2007 and comprises of four 43-inch panels attached to each other.
The existing LCD and OLED panels feature a structure which enables the light-emitting element such as the liquid crystal or organic EL material to be sealed between two glass substrates, the new panel from Shinoda allows seamless connection.

The light emitting element is not in the panel itself, but a plasma tube which serves as a light-emitting element. This tube is sealed separately. The width of the joint line is less than 1mm in the 86-inch prototype and the company hope to make it even less visible in the future.
There’s no word on the pricing or when it will hit stores, but we’ll keep you informed.
