Zodiac Screenwriter Signed On For Spiderman 4

It has been reported that Sony Pictures has hired James Vanderbilt, the man behind the Zodiac script, to write Spider-Man. Sam Raimi recently claimed that he didn’t want to write the screenplay for the fourth film and many Spidey fans were relieved. I think Vanderbilt is a great choice.

James’ scriptology includes Basic, Darkness Falls and The Rundown. Not only that, he’s also done a polish on X-Men Origins: Wolverine and wrote the screenplay for the upcoming adaptation of the Vertigo comic book The Losers.

However, it’s unlikely Vanderbilt will start writing the script anytime soon with the writers strike now currently in full swing. The fourth Spiderman film is expected to hit theaters in the summer of 2009, but Sam Raimi has claimed he will only commit to the film if the screenplay is good.

According to industry insiders, Raimi is waiting on The Hobbit before committing to any other big film projects. Raimi has previously said he will only do the Lord of the Rings prequel if Peter Jackson settles his New Line feud.

    Hey!
I think that’s actually pretty good news. Change is quite welcome I am sure. Vanderbilt will have a pretty busy schedule, as the next X-Men movie is also planned for 2009. Can’t wait :)
