World Scrabble Championship Nov 07: hosted by Mattel Toys India

Over 42 countries are now competing in the World Scrabble Championship 2007 as India has become the host for the first time. Over 110 players will start the World Scrabble Championship on November 9th which is hosted by Mattel Toys India, and will play for three days where they will face the final on November 12th. The Scrabble Championship has now been going since 1991 and is held every second year.
When the World Scrabble Championship was first held in 1991 there were only 48 players from 19 different countries. This just shows how popular the tournament is now getting. Scrabble was first invented in 1948 by Alfred Mosher Butts, who was an architect in the US, and over this past 59 years the game has increased in popularity, it is sold in over 121 countries and comes in 29 different languages.
