Fox Is First Studio To Release Blu-Ray DVD With Picture-In-Picture Tecnology
By: Lucy | November 1, 2007
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has revealed it will be the first studio to offer a Blu-ray title with picture-in-picture interactivity when it released the sci-fi thriller ‘Sunshine’ in January.
Running concurrently with the movie in a separate video stream will be commentary from the Sunshine filmmakers.
Although this sounds like a brilliant idea, most Blu-ray players do not currently support picture-in-picture features – including the play station 3! Fox VP Steve Feldstein has said that in the coming months there will be several Blu-ray players available that support the functionality saying, ““There will be players in the market”.
Several manufacturers, including Sony, are thought to be working on firmware updates to address the issue.
The Blu-ray Disc Association has said that all hardware to be launched after October 31st must be able to play back picture-in-picture video, as driven by BD Java interactive technology.
