$199 Linux-powered Green gPC made by Everex at Wal-Mart
We have learned that 600 Wal-Mart stores are now selling the Everex Green gPC which is powered by the free operating system Linux, and will be priced at just $199. As you would expect the gPC by Taiwan company Everex has a very low spec such as the VIA Technologies low-end processor, just 512 megabytes of internal memory, a small 80GB hard drive, and a DVD CD burner combo.

Everex insist that what makes the Linux-powered gPC green is the use of the VIA Technologies processor which is very energy efficient. Melissa O’Brien, a spokeswoman for Wal-Mart has said that they are now stocking this PC in one in eight stores across the U.S so that they can test the demand for the gPC.
