Russell Watson has been told he will be discharged from hospital later today after making ‘good progress’ following surgery on a brain tumour.
The tenor was taken into the private Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, Cheshire on Thursday and underwent a three-hour operation.
There has been some concern that the singer’s voice could be damaged from the operation after surgeons were forced to work via his mouth to remove the tumour.
A statement said that “Further to his emergency operation last week, Russell came out of ITU early on Monday and is making good progress in his recovery. He will need to continue to rest for the foreseeable future so as to fully recover from his surgery. We would like to pass on Russell’s heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming amount of messages and gifts from his fans. The tremendous support he is receiving really makes a difference and as soon as he is able he will send a personal message to you all.”
Russell suffered from a brain tumour last year and made a full recovery after he was operated on, but it was revealed that the tumour had re-grown after he became ill during a recording session last week.
We wish him well
