The Green Lantern Movie Finds A Director

It seems it’s not only The Flash who’s solo movie has got a new director. Recent reports have claimed that Greg Berlanti has signed on to direct a live-action big screen adaptation of The Green Lantern. I don’t think us ladies could take any more men in tights!

Berlanti is to pen the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. If you’ve not heard of Berlanti, you wouldn’t be alone - the only movie he has directed The Broken Hearts Club. Apart from that, he’s been the executive producer for Dirty Sexy Money, Everwood and Brothers & Sisters.

Warner Bros apparently are saying “Who cares if his only experience is a $1 million indie romantic comedy, he could probably handle a big screen superhero film!”. The use of the word ‘probably’ says a lot. Do they actually trust this man to make a great superhero film? I don’t think they do.

So how did he get this job? Variety may have the answer,

Guggenheim, who works with Berlanti as a writer-producer on Brothers & Sisters, wrote the Marvel comicbooks Amazing Spider-Man, Wolverine and Blade. Green, the “Heroes” co-exec producer who worked with Berlanti on Everwood and Jack & Bobby, wrote the Marvel Comics title Superman/Batman and was a writer-producer on Smallville.”

So, it seems that this was a case of ‘who you know’ not talent or experience. I like a good superhero movie just like the next girl, but I mean good not mediocre and amateurish.

With the announcements that The Flash and The Green Lantern spin-offs are in the making, I’m worrying that Warner Bros will abandon the Superman sequel?
