Couldn’t Care Less About Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and Play station 3: Am I Really Missing Much?

I love coming to work to see what fan boy argument my colleagues have started next but the thing is, I really don’t get what all the fuss is about? Why are people so passionate about which console is better, which games are better when really it’s all a waste of time?
Now, I’m not saying I’ve never played a video game because I have and yes, I did enjoy it at the time but it seems that everyone is obsessed these days with which console is the best to buy: surely it’s not such a big part of your life that you will defend it ‘til the end?
So, I need enlightening - why are gamers so interested in finding out which console is better? By not taking an interest in the three above consoles is my life seriously lacking something?
If anyone can persuade me that buying a console will improve my life I may change my mind and buy one, but for now I’m left wondering what all the fuss is about.

The whole console dig video games obsession is comparable to people comparing which car is better. Like a 1967 Corvette comparable to a 1969 Shelby GT. If you don’t get any of that, it’s simple as, “My lawn looks better than your lawn.”
Why not?
Well, I play video games a lot.
I have since I was…well, since I could hold the controller.
They have always been a big part of my life, and I really don’t see myself stopping.
I stick with Nintendo, mostly.
I’ve had almost EVERY one of their consoles, and I really like what they do.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t like the other teams.
Games are fun.
Enough said. ^^
Well, “fanboys” are just what you can imagine, people that are obsessed with video games and take sides just for the sake of argument. I’m not gonna lie and say that it isn’t completely ridiculous, but the system wars are a real war in the case of the video game industry. Who wins is crucial to the future of the industry and therefore essential to the turn out of future games. That’s a big part of why gamers take sides with one console or another.
Now, for me, I’d have to go with the Wii… just because it is so appealing to every audience. No matter who you are, you can find something to love, where as with the 360 and PS3 they seem to rely on that “hardcore” niche. That’s not a bad thing by any means, in fact sometimes I’d really like it if Nintendo would convince developers to make more mature games, but the variety on the Wii and especially the DS is what is making both platforms so successful. If you can find the right games, you’ll find out that the platforms are just plain fun… with that occassional sprinkle of a masterpiece.
Well, I don’t agree with you that they are a waste of time, but you are entitled to your opinion. Gamers play games the way movie lovers watch movies or book lovers read books. Its the same thing really.
I play games because I enjoy them. They give you a sense of accomplishment whenever you beat a level, or win a match on an online multiplayer game. I also play them because they make me feel better. If I have a rough day, I’ll go home, pop in a game, and start having fun. They make you forget about anything bad in your life, or anything that you are having problems with. There are even games like Earthbound, which are as emotional and incredible as any book ever written. Also, they are just plain fun.
Now, are you missing much? Most VG fans would say yes. But if you have lived without them so far, then you could continue to live without them. However, I think if you gave them a chance, you may find that you really like them.
Well. it can be quite a joy to spend a Sunday at home and playing a truly remarkeble game that constantly surprises you. I think gamers are gamers because of those moments. Some people drink, some people smoke and some people play games to relax.
games consoles are no longer just “games consoles”. they have turned into entertainment centres for the living room, where you can not only play games but surf the internet, listen to music, watch high definition films. sony and microsoft have decided to go in the direction of the “entertainment centre” whereas nintendo have stuck to the “games console”. there has always been these arguments about which is better, and i’m not too sure why, but it is fun to just have a debate sometimes, thats why i find it fun. hope i helped, not sure i answered your question.
I’m a female gamer who currently does not have the current consoles of 360, Wii, or PS3. But I do have to say that games are more than just a waste of time.
You said you played a game before, but what types? Have you ever played a story driven game like Japanese RPGs? Have you played the artistic games out there like Okami, Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus? Saying its a “waste of time” is like saying reading a book is a waste of time. Games like these can bring you so much immersion and even other games that are focused on other subjects can improve your cordnation, social skills, and other functions.
Other games of recommendation include Katamari Damacy for its gameplay, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions for its story as well and so much more.
Please ignore fanboy comments and the likes. Its no different than football fans and other such sports fans saying “Oh, my team is the best, they have such and such player with blah blah statistics.”
Honestly, I say go with Playstation 2 if you haven’t already. There are TONS of games that have the potential to reach out to you. Okami, Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, and Katamary Damacy can be played well.
If you are a fan of story-driven media, or just to experience a new way to do things, than by all means, please buy. I feel you are missing alot. No different than giving a new TV show, movie, or book a chance. You might just like it.
First off why don’t you do the research yourself if you are so interested. Secondly why do you come to gamers, ridicule what we like and then expect us to spill our guts to you, someone who doesn’t even have the decency to write a full page article about the subject at hand.
And thirdly if you actually spent the time researching you would see the exact reason why we defend one console. Its actually pretty simple to figure out if you aren’t stupid. Oops I’ve said to much.
Gamers aren’t your personal research source!!
The Wii is the most groundbreaking, and has the best online downloadable games. Also, the Wii is the easiest and most fun to play when you are videogame-illiterate!
