Call of Duty 4: do I buy on Xbox 360 or Sony PS3?

Well if your a multiplayer whore, the 360 version is going to have TrueSkill ranking, more people playing online, and a better interface for inviting friends.

Oh yeah, also Achievements and Rumble. Though the PS3 version might support rumble but your not going to be able to get the rumble controllers till next year.

First off, the game is the exact same for both. That includes both gameplay and graphics. And thats not speculation but stated directly by Infinity Ward themselves. The only thing that really sets them apart is online. PSN is good but XboxLive is far better. As mentioned it’s easier to manage and hosts a far greater number of players.

Again, both versions are equal but when it comes to online, Xbox has the upperhand. I was lucky enough to get into the MP beta for CoD4 and absolutly loved it. I found it better then Halo 3′s MP.

So I’d say get the 360 version for Xboxlive.

But i thought the ps3 is better than the 360? not! after a year the ps3 library still continues to suck and will always be lagging behind the 360! blu ray? bull! we can put full length movies mastered in hd on dvd, so games will always have room on dvd! more sony lies to push blu ray!

cod4 may look the same on both systems, but trust me, youll get better gameplay and 10 times better online play on the 360. call me a fanboy all you want, i had the 60g ps3 and finally got smart and traded foe 360! best decision (and it was a hard one)i ever made. sony can keep the blu ray player, i want to play games!! p.s.- the ps3 is a total bad ass with blu ray!

If you already have a Xbox live gold account then get COD4 on the 360 (as long as you are willing to pay for the rest of your life to be able to play it online whenever you want to). Jason Booth knows nothing. He’s just a hater and needs to go STFU!! All PS3 Game developers need to do is learn how to use the PS3s power and push all of its game to its full potential. First of all Mr. Luke, lets say that ONE developper is not god. It is an opinion. I am a electronic hardware/Software developper and there is certain processors that I have better result with, not because they are THE best ones but because I am more used to it. PS3 is using new technology and yes it is harder to develop for. No pain, no gain. The xbox is a canned games dedicated pc. The PS3 and the 360 are two different systems that is all.

So if if you own both system, then go rent both, compare and then go with you favorite one.

And don’t forget to have fun because that is what game systems are about !

This is a no brainer question. The developers of COD4 (there are two teams) said the PS3 version was the better version. So if the devs say its the better version that vetos anybody else really.

Hell EA said MAdden 08 for the 360 is the better version so no one can say the PS3 version is better. If you have the choice get the PS3 version since the Develops said they prefer that version and its the better of the two.

As for people trying to quote John Booth. Before he worked on Rock Band he was an artist, Not a developer. He helped develop for Rock Band and that was his first time developing. He is a newbie in the devs world so he really doesn’t know everything he is talking about.

It would be like me making emblems for Dodge my whole career and then one day stepping up to installing seats on a new model. Then I proclaim the Lamborgini is a pathetic car because only its parts can be used only on Lamborginis. It makes no sense to listen to this guy, he is a nobody and the new place he is starting up is in Direct competition with the Sony PS3 and Home.

Rumble and XBox Live Matchmaking make 360 a clear choice. I have both systems and PS3 has yet to match any 360 compatible release except for Oblivion. I don’t care if it’s harder to develop on or if the fill rate on the PS3 is slower, etc. the bottom line is that the 360 versions have all been better. The SixAxis implementations have all been gimmicky whereas rumble is a VERY important feature to me and I don’t want to wait until next year and pay another $50 to get it on PS3.

Considering the xbox’s online capabilities (and bigger online base), the 360 is definitely the way to go for this game.

PC games never did it for me. I grew up on joysticks and controllers. It’s like switching from Windows to Mac, I don’t see the incentives. Keyboard and mouse reminds of work so much that I don’t want to use it for gaming…lol. Plus, consoles are cheaper for the quality of hardware you receive. I can’t see spending $350 on a PC and being able to play a game like Halo 3 with the same kind of quality. I have a 360 so I might get it. I’m more interested in Assassin’s Creed and Mass Effect.

Ill be buying it for PS3, for two reasons.
1) i only have the PS3
2) i love my PS3, i have played on Xbox and 360 alot, i even got to play in the 360 Beta for COD4 which was Awesome! But theres just something about the 360 controls and Interface that bugs be. It just isnt as User friendly as PS3, and the fan noise would drive me nuts. I agree Xbox live is better than PSN but dont forget that its had a huge headstart, PSN will get better these things just take time, also ive had no problems with it so far. I guess i like quality products that last and PS3 is very well made and looks great. 360 could have been better an example of this is the huge Power pack, that thing is a brick. PS3 can install linux so you can potenially stream pc games from online. Bioshock is on PC and Halo 3 will be on PC so technically you can play these on your PS3. Its just such a hassle to do so.

We don’t even know if the previewer was previewing builds at the same stage of development. Infinity Ward have said they are pretty identical, so I think PS3 boys expecting a better version will most likely be disappointed.

Sorry devise, I have worked as a military advisor to games and what you are hearing from IW is politcs. You can think two differet platforms will produce identical graphics and sound if you want. If you are willing to buy that, let me talk to you about a bridge I have for sale…

Don’t fall victim to the idea that everything will be exactly the same. IW has already tried to explain away the screens. If you watch the videos and played the beta then you know the 360 has some seriosuly ugly mipmapping with texture pop that doesn’t occur in the PS3 version.

I have a 360 (This name is my gamertag) but the 360 has user induced lag issue sthat are not as prevalent on the PS3. Better controller? Yes. Better ontrol? Not the same thing. Several titles have surfaced already where re,arks are the control was tighter on the PS3.

Saying the true hardcore gamers are on the 360 when the Playstation brand has a longer history is assumptive, a matter of opinion, and in many cases incorrect. On a game for game basis, I have far more 12 year olds screaming in my ear on Live versus what I encounter on PSN.

BTW, a little bird tells me 2.0 for the PS3 is just around the corner.

Well the fact is most PS3 and 360 games do look the same with only minor differences. Framerate has been a big issue on the PS3 but I trust that IW has done a good job.

Nice job of find issues in a Beta build. It’s Beta for a reason. Do you really think IW wouldn’t have invested time in polishing the title? Do you think a PS3 beta build would contain no flaws? Polish is pretty much all that goes on in the final stages of the project. I expect improvements.

Yes it was a beta build but most of the graphical settings were locked in the beta. That wasn’t the purpose of the test but rather to look at the net code and evaluate game balance. I didn’t have to look hard for that issue, and it wasn’t the only graphical problem.

There has been something of an unofficial embargo on these comparison reviews. Other than Dailygamer, IW was careful to not let people see the two versions side by side. You better get a box of Kleenex. Once the reviews start rolling, you are going to have along week.

It all depends which console you already own. If you own both, personally I’d say ps3 because more than likely you have more 360 games than ps3. (the 360 has a more ‘popular’ library of games than the ps3. The ps3 DOES have some good exclusives so don’t think me a hater for saying that.)

I have owned 4 Xbox 360s. MS still ownes me a $129 check that is way over due and they only reimbursed me for 8 of the 14 weeks of LIVE I was down for. That’s great customer service. I got my HALO edition and the play and charge kit was dead out of the box.

Everyone said the PS3 would win the console war. Well, everyone except MS. But every industry analyst said it would happen, just not be the margin last gen. Figures released for EU yesterday show the PS3 outselling the 360 2:1 since the price cut and 40B release. When the October figures come in for the US people will see the HALO effect is over. I love HALO and you can see by my gamertag I run it a bit. But one game won’t float a console.

The 360 had it’s head start but that isn’t going to hold now that the PS3 is finally starting to get titles. John Carmack is a man I respect. He is the single most influential man in the history of gaming. Even he said the PS3 was a more powerful machine. And this was before the issue with parallel processing.

Like a lot of people he did not think it (parallel processing)could be done to the degree necessary to make the architecture worth while. Trying to get returns from SPUs and PPUs for Physics, AI, (and now graphics acceleration assistance) from the Cell in ways the 360 can’t, all synched to a microsecond was thought to be impossible. It isn’t. Guerrilla Games has done it and they are teaching other companies how. We are going to see some things from the PS3 the 360 just can’t do.

Storage limitation is a huge issue. Rockstar said it was crippling GTA4. Bizzare Creations could not put the maps on the disk in PGR4 they wanted. And Assassin’s Creed had issues with storage. The fact that devs even publiclly mention this means it has grown to huge proportions as a problem. It is like an iceberg, if you see a little you can bet what is going on underneath is a hell of a lot bigger.

I am a fanboy. I am a fanboy of great games and I want to see games made that are groundbreaking. Can you still have good games om DVD9? Yes. But if you want games that will break barriers, especially in 2008, you are going to need storage capacity and you are going to neeed a new way of processing. The PS3 brings that to the table. The open development system on PSN (versus the MS closed version) means things like UT3 mods are possible. Mark Rein said right now it can’t be done on the 360. This is the future and if you want to game more of the future you are going to need to get a second console. A PS3.

I was reading the huge mess writen above and I will agree with 1 thing. Hardcore gamers are deffinatly on the 360. I’m talking real gamers, Older gamers and people that know how to shoot. Therefore the better online experience will be the 360. Plus there will be obviously more copies of the 360 sold then the PS3 meaning our community is going to be better.

Wow Ralph didn’t list a single PS3 game that’s already available. I’m as excited about Home as the next guy, but the fact that Sony pushed it back to at LEAST 2nd quarter 2008 is more than disappointing. If you look at the games available today there’s no question that PS3 developers are struggling terribly. Only Ratchet & Clank and Resistance (ironically both from Insomniac who are admitedly awesome!) are AAA titles right now. The 360 lineup of CURRENT games is simply much stronger and the quality of cross platform games so far has definitely pointed towards the 360 side.

I’m a fanboy of both systems equally and they’ve both made serious mistakes – but seriously, no doubt: get the 360 version.

The real question is how does each game play on-line? COD is a great FPS but only when played on-line… XBOX LIVE is obviously a fantastic service with millions of players but whats up over at SONY? Do they have the # of players to make the on-line enjoyable?? That’ll be the decider in my books!!

Reading these post are funny. One guy says the lineup of th 360 is better then the 360. Another says ha 1080p when he plays it on 1900×1200. 1080p is 1920×1080 on up to 60in. It takes at least 50in to see the difference between 1080 and 720. I don’t think playing it on a 22in PC screen is all that impressive. Lets answer this kids questions. What he wants to know about is what game does it play better on. From what I have been told is the 360 has a better online service but due to it being hosted on live and not on dedicated servers like the PS3 it has more lag. Also there is a feature that will allow the porting of maps from the PC to the PS3. If you have played COD you know this is the best online feature you can have. My guess is that you will be able to buy them on the Xbox. My guess is that if you are a live user go 360, if you are a PC gamer go PS3. If you want the least lag go PS3. If you like talking crap with 13 year olds go 360 because no one talks on the PSN.

I think the real question is do you own a PC. That would be the best version. No immature kids on live. No red ring of death. No Question marks on if the PS3 version has some weird bug. PC games will have new maps up every week.

It’s really sad that many will cut each others toys to prove that theirs are better when specifications on the 2 machine show that PS3 out weighs the 360. Yes I am happy for those 360 hardcore gamers who are stuck with their potential RROD bombs. Just keep it alive by giving it air, mouth to mouth, or just suck on it. This will make all you 1% out of 99%? …that would happily waste all their precious time bringing it back to the store and wait for God, who know how long…Hardcore fans happy. By the time you calculate the expenses so call compare the price of the PS3 then you just wasted more money than the PS3.

Lets put it this way…Xbox 360 is a simple version of a SMALL DESKTOP with internal OS that does all the software loading at the Monkeys level so you can plug in your controller that Microsoft built like the same one you actually buy for your DESKTOP or LAPTOP to play the same game but require you to use the full keyboard…but gives you not 1 but 3 independent processors that actually thinks and processes separately by themselves that does not require any guidance from a main source (Hence the reason the machine goes a RROD). Just think that you invested on a LAPTOP or a DESKTOP already I presume…that I believe you bought the same game or similar to play before X360 came out and play it. Compare it to your Desktop or Laptop, isn’t X360 actually the same. But only one thing different your DESKTOP or LAPTOP only uses a Single or Dual Processor that really works because it was made by a reliable company. That is why Microsoft had their X360 system out a year before PS3 came out. This thing you call X360 is really the next generation DESKTOP that all the computer companies are soon to build for all of us in the world but with a keyboard. Explain also that you need to have your hands also held through the Live menu so you can claim that your HADRCORE GAMING experience is really worth to pay extra that you already pay for your internet access. Calculate that cost on your belt every month. So the question is, are you a monkey or a gamer?
