Extended Warranty Information

For those of you who have had trouble with their Xbox 360, you will know of the struggle of trying to get Microsoft to replace your console. For those of you who are currently receiving replacement consoles through the Microsoft extended warranty, there is some invaluable information you should know.

In the service contract, it states:

In the rare event your Microsoft Entertainment Device can’t be fixed, we’ll comfort you with a replacement model.

If all else fails and our service professionals actually conclude your Microsoft Entertainment Product is beyond repair, we’ll provide you with a replacement including the latest features. So your Microsoft Service Contract can pay for itself several times over with this benefit alone.

My nephew has recently discovered his Xbox 360 (the older version without HDMI) has the Red Ring of Death. Telling him not to worry, I helped him pack his console up and send it off for repair.

Now, I’m pretty certain that the HDMI port is considered as a latest feature and now comes standard with the pro/premium consoles. So, if my nephew’s console can’t be repaired and Microsoft can’t fix it a and sends you back a machine other than the one you sent in, you are Entitled To A Newer Console - Don’t Settle For Less!

It’s likely that the call centre guys at MS will try and wiggle out of this but persevere! The above information states clearly you’re entitled to a newer console so don’t hang up without confirmation!

This only applies if you have purchased the Extended Warranty Through Microsoft

    Not quite true.

The language is intentionally vague, and “latest features” aren’t defined. It could be software, as far as MS is concerned.

From a legal standpoint, ambiguous language is open to interpretation, and if MS decides to replace your console with a similar model, I doubt most individuals will be prepared for a showdown in court.

In other words, don’t hold your breath for HDMI just yet.
