PC games on Sony PS3 using Game Streams: bad for Xbox 360

So if you got new game releases like FIFA 08 and BioShock on your PC, you may soon be able to play these PC games on your Sony PS3 thanks to “Game Streams”.
According to a new “free-to-join website” called Streammy Game, you will be able to play PC games on your PlayStation 3 via IPTV channels called Game Streams and if this happens it could revolutionise the gaming industry.
The CEO behind this venture is called Richard Faria, the members of Streammy Game will get a free plug-in that converts games into the IPTV channels and will let the gamers play remotely by sending it over a home network.
This is then received by a second PC or laptop which then plays the game, now the first thing I thought was “LAG” but they are claiming there will be none.
If this works and indeed there is no lag, I would have to agree this could not only revolutionise the gaming industry but could help the Sony PS3 win against the Xbox 360.
Q4 of 2007 will see a Linux version released that enables PC games to be played on the PlayStation 3 and it does not stop there, as they also claim the games can be played on other devices like mobile phones, media devices, set top boxes and DVD players.
This is going to be amazing.

What’s the point. I play PC games with my keyboard and mouse not a controller and my PC monitor has just as good resolution as my HDTV. I play console games on a console. There is no draw to this and no profit for Sony if the games are played on their system because there is no liscense to Sony for the game. I can do this by hooking up my PC to my tv through my video card and using a wireless keyboard and mouse if I wanted to. Just saved me $500.
Excellent a 400 dollar dumb terminal ok maybe a thin client(PS3). Why not just use a media extender as a dumb terminal instead.
I guess it will work well if the game requires little or no interaction, hence works well for movies etc… As for no lag, not a chance in hell. The lag will make it impractical for HD games. You need serious bandwidth just for the transmission of the HD graphics, sound etc… Might work for low definition games, flash, xbox live games etc… Just think about the lag issues you have with online games, and the relative movement of data is relatively miniscule.
As for helping the PS3 win the race. How does that work? Sony sell the PS3 at a loss, then everyone buys games for their PC… I don’t see Sony getting anything from this.
To be honest this sounds like the claims of a start up tech company, looking to raise funds.
That is by far the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Let me go out and buy a $5000 gaming rig to play it on my ps3. If you think that will sell consoles sir I suggest you actually become a gamer before you write about it.

This will help the PS3 how? If your buying games for the PC that works best with a mouse and keyboard playing against non PS3 owners online. Sony wants people to buy PS3 games, not PC games. Did you forgot that they lose money on hardware and make it back on software.

lol…I think PS3 fans are upset because they feel suckered. They fell for the corporate propaganda, the hype. Game developers are coming out now letting it be known that the PS3 is inferior to the Xbox 360. At least you got a blue ray player, and I think that’s all Sony was interested in this round. I would of thought all of you would of learned from PS2. If Sega had the advertising dollars, Sony wouldn’t even be in this market. That’s why Microsoft jumped in, they saw a lame at the top and knew they could do it better. The PS3 is quiet though, more than an average computer. That lets you know it was meant to be a movie player. Sony hasn’t loss, they really want Blue Ray to take off. That’s why the 40 gig model lost all ps2 compatibility ’cause they couldn’t care less about gaming.
Not revolutonary.Not a bad idea but it has failed many times over the years.If they could make the newest console games play without a glitch over the net they might have something.That was Nintendos plan until the 360 was announced.
Sony might do well to make the PS3 a full fledged pc/media portal(ha ha cause they aint got any games j/k ,kinda).They already said it was.At the very least it would kick MS in the butt and get them to open up media types and get a browser.

Ok well you see this is very cool. Playstation is very smart, he can do a lot of things as you can see. Microsoft doesn’t care about how it’s working, they just want to make money. Sony too but theyr quality is a lot better and think about if you can play PC games on ps3 it means that you can buy any game and if you buy PC games you gonna play halo3 and gears of war. Whoever blue ray is a very good inovation. NOw it’s the time to sell your xbox360 and buy a ps3 and get in the game for real.

I can objective. I’m not making money on any of this. Who the hell wants to play Ratchet and Clank?! I’m playing MOH: Airborne, Halo 3, Gears (still), and in a couple of weeks, Assassin’s Creed and Mass Effect. On top of that, let’s not talk about the online play, voice conversations while gaming, music playing while gaming, streaming media from my pc so I don’t have to load up my elite. C,mon man, be objective. I had the first PlayStation, that’s about it.
I like it when they say game devs are coming out saying the PS3 is inferior to the 360, There are both sides of that story. I noticed no one mentions that:
The Call of Duty 4 devs said the PS3 version was better
Haze was dropped on the 360 since they couldn’t do what they wanted to do hardware limitations
Mark Rein at Epic was like Blu Ray is great since I can have everything I want and that the 360 version would have to have maps cut
Rockstar is making L.A. Noire exclusive to the PS3 since the game is to big for the 360
Both sides have devs that come out and say things. So please don’t act like all the devs are saying the PS3 is inferior to the 360. Its not even the majority
PS3 defenders, ya’ll notice a difference when critics talk about the systems, right?! They get detailed when they talk about the PS3. They don’t say gibberish, like limitations. Developers ultimately want more systems on the market, that’s more money for them. They don’t want a Walmart in the video game market dictating price and so on. If the PS3 was hot, when Halo dropped, there wouldn’t have been a halo effect cause there would of been a hot game on the ps3 too. But other games undersold, mainly cause everyone was busy playing halo 3. I like all the consoles on the market. Sony is getting attacked because of all the smack they talked. They’re the ones talking about how superior they are and it’s not true. They’ve lied to you guys so much: ps2 backwards compatibility, vibration with sixaxis, fake gameplay footage before they dropped. They attacked MS for backwards compatibility and they took it out their newer systems. They mocked MS for having multiple SKU’s, software emulation and what are they doing now?! Let’s be honest, Xbox 360 games keep on looking better as time goes by. They looked like crap in E3 before it dropped. PS3 games keep looking like shit as they progress from the first E3 they debuted. Be honest with yourselves. At least you have a Blue Ray player.

Rockstar said due to lack of HDD and DVD9 L.A. Noire will not be on 360. They are having the same problem with GTA4 right now. They want MS to require HDD for it.
Haze devs said lack of HDD, no Blu Ray,closed XBLA have restricted them and they are dropping the 360
I could go on and on.PS3 games continue to look better and you are part of a very small minority that thinks R&C doesn’t look great and better than anything out there. Hell even most reviewers said Lair looked great they just hated the controls. Explain to me why Unreal 3 looks better than Gears? They are the same company and improved on the graphics , Epic even said Unreal 3 on the PS3 is ahead of Gears on the 360.

Welcome to the world to thin clients. Its only a matter of time before someone wakes up that Virtualgl client works on PS3 under Linux. And that any Linux or Windows game running in wine could be streamed to PS3 or any other device that can support X11 or there own VNC or Suns thin client protocol. Note Virtualgl can be expanded to support any protocol. Now upnp devices that could be interesting to add to Virtualgl.
Ok its the first time this has been done with DRM and the first time from a Windows Server.
But streaming games is nothing new to Linux. To be correct we stream everything games applications… You name it we stream it.
MS thin client software most of them sux. So at long last we are getting a decent one. Pitty it stuck with drm.

You’re comparing games that came out in different years. It has nothing to do with the consoles buddy. When Gears 2 drops, it’s gonna look and play better than UT3. UT3 is being pushed back for the PS3 ’cause of hardware limitations. Xbox Live is fine, we have a big enough community that we don’t need to play with PC players. You don’t need HDMI to play HD games. I do have the elite and I do notice the slight difference between component and HDMI. But lets be real, how many people have their consoles connected to an HDTV?! I doubt the majority. Buddy, I have my credit card info on my Live account and I’m not the least worried about having it stolen. It’s a non-issue. As a matter of fact, their Live’s closed community provides better security than PS Network. I can’t believe you’re talking about Lair…does anyone play that?! 6 million is not a small customer base. Well I guess Oblivion, Rathcet & Clank, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, The Orange Box, COD4, etc are all bad games since they are on and coming to PS3.
Unreal Tournament 3 is being pushed back so they can add more maps. Something the 360 will not have due to hardware limitations. Only PC and PS3 are the places to get a properly done Unreal 3 game. If you ant to play Gears the way it was meant to be played you have to play it on PC since it was scaled back due to 360 hardware limitations.
I would be worried about someone stealing my credit card info on live if the company that let it happen try to deny it to cover up the FACT there are holes in their network. Hasn’t happened on the PSN network so you can’t say it provides better security since XBLA has been breached and PSN has not been.
IF you have a 1080p TV you should get a PS3 that way you can enjoy true 1080p games well there are two games on 360 that are 1080p so yeah enjoy the rest being upscaled to 1080p. FACT.
Just because you know one friend with RROD doesn’t change the fact that its an issue and still an issue as the Halo edition models RROD as well. Hell I know friends with 360’s that RROD and between us its well over 80% myself included. Does that mean 80% of 360’s fail? No but they fail at a high rate so quit with the well mine hasn’t failed so its all a lie stuff.

Not to say that Sony doesn’t buy games but these games just can’t be done on the 360 as said by the devs unless they completely scaled them down.
I own a 360 and Im disappointed. I make a good paycheck so it wont hurt me to change consoles later if I have to but I feel for the 360 owners. Steaming pc games to a playstation is not important to me but at least its something different and new(if it works). I hear of other ideas like “home” and I wonder why 360 doesnt bother with coming up with something new. Also its note worthy to say my 360 over a year cost more than a ps3 would have. I love online gaming and that cost has added up. batteries for the controls add up. 2 things that cost nothing on a ps3. Im not going to go out and buy a ps3 yet, Im waiting to see how the christmas duel pans out. but with 08 lineup (games, software, and hardware) Im feeling I might have to.

You said Gabe hates the PS3. I said yeah I know but did you know that he said he hated the 360 before too? You still haven’t answered that. EA did the port because Valve doesn’t have the time. They are PC guys and not very good with meeting deadlines so EA did the port so it can be done quicker than Valve would have done it.
Just because you personally don’t like a game doesn’t mean other people don’t want it. You may not like MGS4 but a whole bunch of people do.
As for the Ninja Gaiden guy saying he thinks 360 is better, Thats cool. The guy that makes FFXIII thinks PS3 is better, so does the head at Activision, the devs of COD4, the devs at Rockstar, etc. Where is your response to that.
Why won’t you answer the FACT that 360 has only two 1080p native games? You have a 1080p tv so I thought you would want to take advantage of it by having games that actually maximize your tv. Well I guess since a lot of games on the 360 are below 720p even though it says on the box that they are 1080p you will have an answer for that.

Hey Lucky10, thanks for being original. As for some of these multi platform games looking better on the 360, this is because they were created for the 360 and ported over. This was not the case for Dirt and guess which version turned out better? Oblivion was re-built from the ground up for the PS3 version and guess which version turned out better? Prop airplanes and Turbo Jets? Ha, what a fucking retard. Nice try on that one. Funny how EA had such a hard time getting games to run on the PS3 at 60fps. They sat there and cried just like these babies about how hard it was to get this done. Then 2k calls them out saying they had no problem knockin this out. Suddenly after that EA comes out with a statement saying that all games starting with NBA Live would start running at 60fps. They got caught being lazy. As for Ratchet and Clank on the PS3, this game is the shit! Don’t hate.

usually i like to abstain from conversations having to do with consoles, because most are (much like this one) not based in reality. in reality, the ps3 wasn’t planned to sell good until mid 2008. at the moment it is still selling the same as the 360 did at this point in it’s career. sony’s machine is planned to last 10 years; whereas microsoft has plans to release another console by 2009.
with the ps3, as with the ps2 and ps1, it will take developers a certain amount of time to fully utilize the system, how long were people talking about the ps2 being worse and having bad games before it completely kicked the crap out of everything else? that’s all.

The ps2 did reign for a while.It had good games,so many games were released.90% of them garbage.The Ps2 wasnt a bad system but the gen 1 xbox was better.
The Xbox was the system to have the last couple of years of it’s life because of the games and graphics and online play.It still would be if not for the next gen consoles.
I am sure that MS plans to release a new console right when the Ps3 hits it’s stride in order to blow it away.

Lets kick this off…
The average gap between a console is 5 years. That’s from launch to launch, that is the formula that works. PS1 to PS2, N64 to Gamecube, Gamecube to Wii, PS2 to PS(delay component delay add one year here)3. Microsoft cut the life span on the Xbox1 so they could launch with the PS3 to have a chance of competing. Little did they realize Sony would give them a head start. 5 years from the 360 launch their will be a new Xbox. A more powerful feature rich machine then both the PS3 and 360. Sony are only 4 years into their console lifespan with a decent install base but nothing like they had with the PS1 or PS2.
They have a few choices, launch with the new Xbox and cut the launch distance back to 4 years which would basically murder the PS3 like it did the Xbox 1 (because of lack of install base). Or they could launch a year later again and risk the same issues they had with the PS3 all other again. But Would they have even made their money back on the PS3 by that point? But there’s no way they could give the new xbox 2 years head start and compete. Or they could just not make a PS4 and continue development on the PS3 as people more over to the next generation of game on the Nintendo and Xbox platforms.
Technically Sony are still support the PS2 now right? Are you planning your PS2 much? When the next generation of mind blowing gamin arrives, count me in. You can have your PS3 and play it for 10 years. I want to see what new heights gaming takes.
And as for the PS3 selling the same as the 360 at the same point, why don’t you just compare US and Europe results and you will find that the PS3 is selling like crap. Pretty bad considering Sony was the market leader with the PS2. Oh and another thing, games on all systems get better over time. 360 games will be looking better next year too.

You’re missing the point. A lot of gamers sit around wishing their favorite PC games would get ported to console format so they can play em on both. It doesn’t make any rational sense to me, but there it is. Granted, nobody in their right mind would every try to play WoW (yes yes i know, nobody in their right mind would play WoW at all, I don’t, but millions do) on their PS3 unless they just wanted to wander around and grind without interacting with anything but mobs, but hey, I imagine there are people who would do exactly that for that very reason.
But I digress… the point is not that you get to play your keyboard oriented game on your PS3 controller and go crazy from it… the point is that when you go plunk down $20 for your average PC game, you’re expanding your available game options on your PS3, who’s games are considerably more pricey. Think of it this way… you wouldn’t spend a thin dime on a basic 5 card stud poker game for your PC, but folks pay out $5-$40 for “the worlds greatest crappy poker game compilation ever” garbage every day…. being able to play WoW on your PS3 doesn’t sound like much, but add every PC game you own to your PS3 in one shot. It may not sound like the most brilliant idea ever, but it will most certainly sell, for the same reason people buy the “moron’s mahjongg” crap
