It is a false assumption to assume that someone is “unbiased” just because he *claims* he owns 2 or more systems.

My major complaint about the PS3 is it lacks adrenaline compared to Wii and games relative to 360. The Wii is more of a whole body, whole brain experience (example ExciteTruck) that leaves PS3′s MotorStorm feeling like a game of marbles. I mean that!

The 360 is a lot more reliable now than it was and has great games like Orange Box, Lost Planet, and some would say Halo 3, though I give that game high marks based on hype rather than my actual game experience. I struggled with the first level because it was so hard to see where I was going, but I’ll give it another shot when I am using a 720p or above screen as I did with Gears of War.

The Wii is the future, however. I am missing DVD playback, but two aspects of the console draw me in: 1) games (Metroid Prime 3 is the best FPS I have ever played), and 2) Virtual Console. The Wii is really eight game consoles in one.

Finally, if you look at sales numbers, Wii still has not slowed down in the stores, where PS3 arguably died two weeks after launch. Sony saying 6 million PS3′s have been sold is the biggest joke in the industry. Every store I talk to sells maybe one PS3 a month, whereas they move five Wii units a day, if they have them. This disparity will lead to the PS3′s single greatest weakness–game support. PS3 will never catch up with Wii, and will struggle to reach 360, especially now that Halo has made its debut.

A price cut to $400 is too little too late for Sony. They had to at least catch up to number two to stay viable. GameCube only survived because it was neck and neck with Xbox last gen in installed base, and was ahead the first three years.

Sony has made a big deal of “future proofing” their console, but they have also changed their configuration more often than any other console maker, dropping PS2 compatibility (hardware based) from the newest units among other changes, and it all says to me that Sony doesn’t really know what PS3 is. PS3 is a console in crisis if I’ve ever seen one, and it doesn’t help that Sony is still losing hundreds on every unit sold.

I own all 3 systems (nudge nudge, wink wink)the 360 and the PS3 really do suck, i am much more impressed with Wii.
Mainly because the PS3 blows up occasionally and shouts at me for not paying another £500 for a TV to work on, and the 360 likes to bungie jump on a saturday which is when i like to play it, so that means it sucks.
I like the way the Wii stays home with me, not blowing up or bungie jumping. Sometimes we(wii) sleep together in our cloud bed, dreaming of a more peaceful world.

Why do you guys bash Sony around so much? I dont get why you really care so much? All three systems have their pros and cons. So what if money is lost on each console sold, at least we dont have to foot that bill do we? If the price is too high you’ll bash em, if they cut the price you still bash em.

Why do people care about DVD playback? Don’t you guys own a DVD player like everyone else on the planet. Plus who even wants a shitty combo machine anyways. I wouldn’t by a gaming console for anything but games. PS3 is garbage cause it has no games. Hey everyone my games look decent but they are boring as hell and have PC counterparts. XBOX 360 is sweet because of the wicked ass games that came out lately (Halo 3 was fun!). Well the Wii is genius. A step in the right direction. It gives me a reason to buy a console over a PC game. Whoever decided processing power meant nextgeneration apparently never realized that people still play snes games for how fun they are. Adding a better user interface to submerse people into the game is amazing. Graphics will improve next time anyways. Bioshock and Halo 3 you could beat in 1 day. Bioshock especially crappy because of no multiplayer. People talk about these games being better because they are hardcore. How long can you play the game after it is beat? Halo 3 is only playable because of multiplayer.

Its all about the games. Not controllers, not price, not features. Spell it out; G-A-M-E-S.

Wii flourishes with mini-games and a few great ‘hard-core’ games that rely on imprecise motion controls. Not something a real hard-core gamer wants all the time. Yes, its great for parties and when you have one or more friends to play with you in the same room. Beyond that, not much else to it. I thought having access to the old gaming library would be great! Playing NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, or Turbo-Graphix 16 games again, but there is something you realize pretty quickly when you start to play those old retro games, poor controls. They are not nearly as responsive as modern games are (excluding motion controlled games) and can be frustrating at times. I much prefer the remakes of these old classics. Keep those updated versions coming. Lets just ignore the online space, just as Nintendo has. The Wii is a nice idea, just not for me (an older gamer or graphic whores).

What does the 360 have that my computer doesn’t? Seriously. What? Xbox Live? Answer: Windows-Live. Games? Answer: Bioshock? PC. Gears of War? PC. Halo? PC. Fable? PC. Mass Effect? PC. EVERY SINGLE XBOX & XBOX 360 game are available on PC or are coming to PC. HDTV support? Answer: My HDTV has a VGA port, very simple to hook up my PC. Another thing that my PC has up on the 360; non-proprietary upgradable network adapter, RAM / Video card, keyboard/mouse support and web browser. Plus, I can choose which game controller I prefer or just stick with the trusty keyboard/mouse controls for FPS or RTS. Lets not even touch on the WORST FAILURE RATE IN THE HISTORY of non-recalled home electronics.

What do you get with a PS3? A hell of lot more for the money. Sure its expensive, right now. But with the $399 40GB version hitting shelves in a week, this is no longer an argument. We all know the PS3 will reach the $299 price mark by the end of 2008 or early 2009. The beauty of home electronics, only one direction for the price to go, down. If I want to play Resistance, Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, Eye of Judgment, Folklore, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, SOCOM, Ratchet & Clank, Warhawk, Twisted Metal, Little Big Planet, or any other Sony exclusive, the only way to play them is on a Playstation 3. This is the true definition of ‘exclusive’ and these games are ONLY available on Sony’s new console – not Xbox, not Wii, not PC. Even Nintendo understands this; you won’t find any Mario or Metroid games on PC, unless you have the pirated Emus and Roms.

I have always felt that a smart gamer / investor would not waste their money on console to play games that can be played on another medium, such as the PC, and in many cases play the better version on the other format. I hear people say Playstation Network (PSN) does not compare to XBox Live (XBL) – these people are clueless. Hear me out: You -pay- for XBL for what? JUST to play games online (I know, Wed and weekends are free, whoopteedoo). Don’t say a better service, because all the chatting and store access is FREE. So you -pay- for laggy game rooms. AND IT LAGS BAD. Just like the old PS2 network games. You have not had a lag-free game until you have played Resistance or Warhawk online.

To Nynja: I may be wrong, and this may be assuming, but you seem to basically just be a PS3 fanboy just like the person from this article. I mean, yes, there are many games for the 360 that are for PC, and really, I don’t even like the system myself. Still, it’s got a good fanbase, has some nice features (You say XBL is bad, but it’s what basically started the console multiplayer revolution.), and some nice games that aren’t in fact for the computer.

Also, the Wii is pretty much a gimmick still at this moment, which is truly hard to admit for a Wii owner such as myself. But your assertion is still unfair, or possibly downright ignorant. Imprecise controls on hardcore games? Yes, Twilight Princess is in fact a Gamecube game, no one disagrees, but it’s controls are still good. And a game made for the Wii, made for just the Wii, as in Metroid Prime 3? Have you even played that? The controls are magnificent. Nintendo got that right, perfectly so, and despite a lack of advertising for that game, many “hardcore” gamers would be satisfied by that game alone. And that’s not taking into account various other games coming out soon. Oh, and the VC? They didn’t say they were going to remake the games. So how are you surprised? And, about the controls, they don’t make it unplayable. Yes, it’s like you’re playing the old-school game itself, but isn’t that what you pay for? That’s what people -want- after all.

So, am I saying PS3 is not good? No, please don’t mistake me for that. When games actually come out for it (Good ones. Lair and Heavenly Sword were not killer apps.) this thing will be spectacular. I’ll get one myself. But to completely count the Wii or 360 out is downright stupid. Each system has their niche, it’s that simple. And they’re all doing well in said niche.

I used to be a hardcore Nintendo fan but after the run that ps2 had I am about to cave in a buy a ps3. I just think that despite the trouble the system is having right now I know that Sony has the resources to keep it going for many more years to come. You know what I mean?

I had a Gamecube, PS2, and Dreamcast in the previous generation, now I have both a 360 and a Wii and I like them both. I think they both do what they were designed to do very well. The guy that wrote the original article is a liar because after the 360 was out for about 4 months they changed the warranty to a full year for all 360′s retro active to the release date. They since changed it to 3 years retro active to the release date (they sent refunds to everyone who had to pay for repairs). Also on XBL I rarely experience any lag at all, and on my friends list I play guys from Australia, Japan, and UK regularly from here in the woods in Ohio. I still want to get a PS3 but was waiting for price to get to $400, now they are there and they screw up by dumping backward compatibility. I have a feeling I wont touch it until God of War 3 because I am not a big enough fan of MGS.

The only resources that Sony doesnt have to keep it going is uhh, the money. They cant afford to keep losing a billion dollars a quarter on only 1.3 million console sales. What are they gonna do this christmas if they they sell 3 million and lose 2 billion dollars. And that loss if AFTER sucking up all the profits from the PS2 and PSP.

Do yall realize that as of today, Sony is 6 million units behind the 360 and 7 million units behind the Wii? This may not seem too bad excet that it has been getting outsold by both of them every week after week. When the PS3 launched last year, they were 4.5 million units behind, now after 11 months, they are 6 million units behind and getting wider every week. Sure, the PS3 will have a spike with the 40 gig, but it has no momentum at all like the 360 and Wii has. And it is STILL the most expensive console on the market. The 360 has one more HUGE gun up its sleeve next spring when MGS 4 launches that Sony has run out of, and it involes “price cut”. On another note, I think it is clear that Wii will win this generation. Sure, hardcore gamers will curse me out for making this prediction, but the reality is that Wii’s success is more likely to increase over the next few years rather than decrease.

Most of the best Wii games haven’t even launched yet. Wait until Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, the next Zelda game, wait until these games start hitting the shelves. I foresee this Christmas being Nintendo’s most successful holiday season in at least a decade. With their ability to appeal to more demographics than the young adult male, Nintendo will sell their Wii’s by the bucketload, just like they have ALL YEAR since the systems launch. To top it off, new ways of playing are also coming, like the Wii Fit balance board, which again allows a completely new way to play games. Think of all the skateboarding, snowboarding, skiiing, etc games that will be possible with a Wii Remote and the balance board.

At the end of the day, Wii has more to offer than Xbox 360 and PS3, it appeals to more people that the average gamer, and it is the cheapest gaming console of this generation. Wii will win.

For whoever mentioned the age comment, I’m 19 and I don’t even capitalize everything I type.

I will admit now, I’m more biased toward the PS3 simply because I own a PS2. Although Xbox is in the lead right now, you have to see it from the whole perspective. The PS3 is doing as well as the Xbox 360 did its first year. When, not if, more games come out, the PS3 will have a much better position in the gaming community.

Mind you, I’m not saying the PS3 will win. It’ll just do a lot better next year.

1) Yeah sony lost about 1.7 billion dollars in there gaming division for the PS3 year. So what? That what happens in gaming. Microsoft lost 1.9 billion dollars in the 360 first year in the gaming division. MS first turned a profit for the first time with this quarter .They have not turned a profit since the first Xbox came out. There gaming division is still over 4 billion dollars in the hole. Plus Sony is profiting even though the gaming division posted losses. Sony came keep the PS3 afloat very easily.

2)PS3 is actually doing better in its first year than the 360 did in its first year. 360 beats the PS3 in America every week, Europe they are about same, Japan doesn’t touch the 360 and everywhere else the PS3 usually outsells the 360. So the gap is not getting wider its actually getting smaller, not rapidly but its shrinking between the 360 and PS3. Over 6 million sold is not a joke and it still hasn’t even been out a full year.

3) Most of 360′s exclusives are on PC so they are not really exclusive. Like I said most are on PC so don’t name the few that aren’t because I know some such as Mass Effect are not on PC but Gears and Bioshock are and Halo 3 will be.

4) The Wii is selling like hotcakes and everyone is crazy trying to make games for it. The problem is no one is buying games for it. Everyone wants the hardware but people only want like one game or so. It has the lowest attach rate of all the systems. Devs are starting to see this and it could be a problem for Nintendo.

5) PS3 has games. There are tons of great games for the system. Unless only AAA titles are games and you don’t count Oblivion as a game then you can say the PS3 has no games. Then the only games out are Bioshock, Gears and Halo 3. The Orange Box can’t be considered a game since its coming to the PS3 and according to you all the PS3 has no games.

Just because he bashed your console for things wrong in the console you bought does not make him a fanboy. and he can’t be because he owns all three and he purchased the one he favors last. All the N fans that are essentially NDS and old GC fans, have jumped and bought the Wii. So the 15 million GC lovers will push the Wii audience to similar levels (probably a bit less). The biggest issue with the Wii is like One pointed out. The software sales for Wii are _bad_ and the publishers know it. With only a 1.3 attached rate, and majority of software sales going to 1st party, it really doesnt bode well for Wii’s future. Wii owners ask yourself, how many games do you own? Seriously? Most ppl I own still only have Sports. Thats it. This is the main problem.

One got MS numbers wrong though – MS is not yet making ANY money on the X360. The carefully hid their losses in the last major financial report. Their losses increased from 1.9 billion in first year, to over 4 billion in second year. This is not improvements at all – this is simply buring cash badly. And there is all sorts of problems publishing wise as well on the X360 front.

PS3 also is suffering on the games front. There are slow sales, and slow uptake. There is still good sales with the PS2, but the fact is the overal sales of PS3 is sluggish meaning that publisher support like the other two is limited.

Get off your high fanboy horses all of you. In terms of ‘doing well’ none of these consoles are ‘doing well’. In terms of value for money, its all debatable as to what you use and like.

Anyway, I’ve been playing great games for over a year while the Sony fanboys have been crying the PS3 battlecry “YOU JUST WAIT ANOTHER YEAR AND THE PS3 WILL FINALLY BE WORTH IT!” (pause while Sony fanboy sniffs and wipes nose)… Go on the gaming message boards, it’s all the same. Somewhat sad to be honest. As for me, I don’t need to wait, I’ll just continue to play my 360.

P.S. I also own a Wii, a fun gaming system in its own right. Heck, I’ll even get a PS3 if Sony drops the price a little more and gets their crap together. But for now the only thing it offers over the 360 is a high-def video player, and I’m not worrying about that for a few years.

That being said, I think the console choices for each console will ultimately come down to this: like shooting or action games made by American or European studios, get 360; like Japanese games and/or RPGs, get PS3; like Nintendo, buy a Wii. I love the Wii, but only because of Nintendo games. Thats basically it, with the exception of RE:UC and maybe a few others. And I do believe this console gen will last at least another six years before we start seeing replacements, probably more like 8.

On another note, sony basically did what they claimed they wouldn’t do, and thats release a million different versions of one console. They claimed that was the 360′s downfall, and so they wouldnt do it. It’s been less than a year, and already we’ve seen what? 4 different PS3s!!! this is ridiculous. but at this rate, the ps3 should be under $300 by next year and actually be worth buying.

When I had my 360’s they only had the 3 month warranty, according to xbox live. The 1 year came out 3 weeks after my second one died. Oh and I bought all the games and controllers in the 3 months that the first one was alive.

Best part? Price of the PSN is included in the purchase of the PS3 – NO MONTHLY OR ANUAL FEES. In a day and age bombarded with monthly fees (cable/satellite, mobile phone, car payment, insurance, house/rent, etc) the last thing I wish to do is pay a service fee for a gaming console. Don’t get me wrong, I am very happy that Microsoft has become a contender, otherwise we would not have the Playstation Network, Playstation Store, Home, wireless controllers, wireless network, 1Gb LAN adapter or the very important built-in hard drive in every console (just ask any game developer). Competition has always been good, in the end it only makes the consumer the winner.

As I said before, once you have played Resistance or Warhawk with over 30 people in the rooms then let me know what you think of 360′s 16 player max rooms. If you can’t see the difference, that’s just too bad – I can. Also, flame me all you want, just because I have a larger selection of games to play with my PS3, PC and Wii combined than you and your 360 and Wii, there’s no need to be hostile. I merely state facts.

No I don’t own a 360, but I have friends who do as well as my little brother (who also has a PS3). So I have played all the ‘must-have’ games and seriously, I’m not so impressed that I have to buy the 360 version over the PC’s. I’m not lashing out at any 360 owners, many who are my friends. They have all told me the same thing; “I want a PS3, but its just too expensive!” Now with the new $399 model on the way, they are picking up their PS3s in a couple weeks.

Man I can’t wait for CoD4, MGS4, Uncharted, FFXIII, Burnout Paradise – these games are going to kick some @$$!

I was born in Bahrain and the USAF was first there before it was located to Qatar and I must say that most the people I met who work at the USAF did not mention any 18 hrs. They always say that it is like a normal job and they only work around 6 hours. However, I dont know if it changed after the Iraqi war.

But you are right some people are just ungrateful trust me I met a lot of those around the net remarkeably most of them turned out to be rednicks.

The XBox 360 is an unreliable piece of shit. Microsoft overcharges you for everything – from online play, to wireless adapters, to hard drives, to headsets. The only thing they don’t overcharge you is the HD-DVD add-on, and only because they have to COMPETE.

The only saving grace of the “DeadBox PleaseFixMe” is that it has an extraordinarily high number of quality shooters – and that’s it. Hardly any other variety in their games. If you’re a person that loves killing people, calling people n00b and yelling ‘pwned’, then the DeadBox is right for you.

You owe Microsoft’s deals from the competition Sony is giving Microsoft. You should hope that the PS3 does well, maybe you’ll get free online in the future.

My choice was the PS3 because A)MINE has complete backwards compatability, B)FREE online service C)TRUE exclusive games D) GT5, E) Metal Gear Solid 4, F)Final Fantasy 13,13 VS. That “fad” is still going strong and has no signs of slowing. Just look at the hype for Brawl. After that’s out, Mario Kart with 16 players online will beat the crap out of any online game on the 360 or PS3. Why? What has it shown that the 360 can’t do/hasn’t done? Not only is the PS3 hard to develop for, but it has too few games that fully utilize its potential.

How do you know the 360 won’t be around as long as the PS3? Maybe the Wii will get its 5-6 year run, but once it has garnered maximum popularity, developers won’t underestimate it before the original Wii’s launch. They’ll jump right on board and be able to produce more powerful games, and a larger quantity of them in general. The motion sensing will also be a smaller obstacle to deal with in terms of getting the controls just right.

To be honest, I haven’t read many of the above posts, primarliy because there’s so many of the them.

The 360 was rushed onto the market so to get a head start on the PS3, as a result, it would appear, they sacrificed a lot of much needed beta testing in regard to the hardware.

My brother is a big 360 fan and pre-ordered his for the release day, after four months it broke down (fan wasn’t doing it’s job). Once he paid for that to be sorted, the power cable shorted resulting in the on board circuits being fried, it basically meant the console was dead.

From a consumer point of view I was very much put off from buying the 360, it seemed (and quite rightly) like to much of a risk to buy, didn’t have a very good software line up and it was lagging in sales tactics; where sony and nintendo seemed to use the “point out their respective positives”, microsoft seemed to use the “point out the oppositions negatives”, “this is why the 360 is the obvious choice” kind of thing. I’ve never been one to be won over by this as negative sales tactics tend to leave me feeling negative on the whole.

The Wii is great fun, and for the price, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t own one. Even if your not a dedicated player, it’s great for when you have friends and family around. But this is abviously coming from a gamers point of view, from a “rest of the world” point of view, it’s a great console which offers “pick up and play” socialable gaming.

I played my Wii all the time, that was until I bought a PS3, since then the Wii hardly gets a look in. On the other hand, my partner is still very much into the Wii, which is probably due to the fact that she isn’t a “gamer”, and the fact the she fits into the catagory of “the rest of the world”, which nintendo was obviously targeting when they thought up the Wii.

From a personal stand point the PS3 is the definitive gamers console, a bit pricey maybe, but you get so much more the 360, confidence in your purchase being one thing, and with what’s lined up for 2008, you can’t go wrong. The Wii on the other hand offers harmless fun and has opened up the consept of gaming to whole new audience, it’s easy to pick up and play and is enjoyed by children all the way up to grand parents.

When thinking about it, they are not targeted at the same audience, so comparing the Wii and the PS3 is like comparing chalk and cheese, utterly pointless.

The 40gb model is cheaper than the 20gb one was due to the fact the there has been a price restructure. If the 20gb was to hit the shelves again, it would have equally been reduced in price.

The fact that Microsoft was prepared to sacrifice a large percentage of its gamers (lack of beta testing) just to get ahead of Sony in time just gives me even more reason not to buy into their brand. It’s annoying at the time when release dates get knocked back, but I prefer waiting for a good product, as opposed to getting a faulty one earlier.

You’ll notice that at no point do I openly insult the 360, I know it’s a pretty good console which has a fair amount to offer. But in all honesty I feel a lot more security in buying into the Sony brand; the console will last longer (ten years as per), there’s a large proportion of games that will only be on the Playstation that I prefer to Halo, Sony is more consumer focused than Microsoft is (won’t sacrifice consumers just to edge ahead), when looking at the spec list the PS3 does outweigh the 360, the P3S is less likely to break down the 360, etc.

Generally speaking, developers will give the big talk about whoever is giving them the biggest pay cheque. One thing to bear in mind is that most home and business computers run in MS Windows, so it stands to reason developers will find it easier to develop a game on an OS that is made by the same company as the hardware they are developing for.

Sony came in and reinvented gaming by taking it to the next level with the PSone, they then did this again with the PS2, and I feel they have done it once again with the PS3. On the other hand, Microsoft jumped on the back of the PS2 with the XBOX (marketing 101, put ‘X’ in the title, people will think it’s good) which had half the lifespan yet cost pretty much the same, all the games and consoles are dead and buried now, yet the (older) PS2 is still going strong having hit 120million sales, still is has another 180 titles expected to be released and still manages to hit all the right notes.

I just wonder how the 360 enthusiast will feel in 2-3 years when all their games and such will have become redundant, will have to fork out a shed load of cash for the new ‘XBOX-X Edition’ and will now have a 3-4 year trail behind the still in its prime PS3.

Oh and whats his name was right, gamedevelopers do get tasked according to man power and resources (money) so until there are more PS3s then wiis or 360s, we wont see an equally or more impressive verison of any game on the PS3, because EA for example wont turn a profit.

The PS3 is very much so a difficult console to work with because of how advanced it is, and yes if there would be more then just one or two game studios that would try and create a game on the PLAYSTATION 3 hardware, instead of the 360, then we will see a huge difference. hence MGS4, GT5, FF13, etc. etc. look awsome.

I’m unsure as what exactly you want “us guys” to stop, but you did mention cars as an anology, this seems like a good one, one that I would like to have a crack at myself.

When buying a car (and I have bought several over the past few years) you look for a number of things, specs are generally 2nd on my list, the 1st being reliability. There’s a good reason for this, the specs mean nothing if the car doesn’t start. Another point to consider is whether what your buying is a good long term investment, ie; wont be out of date within the next 3 years.

American culture tends to be that of a throw away one, buy something, use it for a few years, buy a new one, this can once again be demonstrated with cars, no one in their right mind would buy a GM car built for than 10 years ago (or this year for that matter), primarily because they’ve all fallen to pieces, yet if you look out for old toyotas and such, they’re generally in pretty good nick (by pretty good, I mean run perfectly).

And this leads me back to the 360, yes, it fits the bill as a next gen console, but the next generation will be here for a few years, you can’t say that for the 360 though. It’s had its big moment, got it’s games out there, but now there is nothing planned for it that screams out like Halo did five minuted ago, it’s a marathon, not a race, and Sont is going to continue to gain pace, strength and market share.

One final point, developers aren’t changing sides when they develop for the 360 also, they’re just opening themselves upto more markets and increasing their scope for profit.

Where are you pulling this out from? Developers have to preach their ideas to the console makers as well. They can’t just wait to be called out. They get a development kit and get working. And yes, that includes smaller studios (AKA: Double Fine with Psychonauts.)

I don’t know about your definition of “advanced,” but in terms of the game industry, “advanced” shouldn’t be about “ZOMG, SPECS!” It should be about creating efficent games with minimal trouble. They shouldn’t have to get fucked up the ass trying to arse themselves with the PS3′s programming.

And yet…it’s not happening. Why? The 360 is selling more, and it’s easier to develop for. It also costs less to make a game for it. If you were a developer, would you honestly go with the harder, less popular system just for the hell of it?

And…just how is the Wii a fad? People still enjoy the system, and it’s still selling like hotcakes. Many also claim that their friends beg to come over to play the Wii. That’s a fad? Well, if “fad” means “fun” and “lasts a really fucking long time,” then yes, you’d be correct. Is online a fad? Are graphics a fad? Then what’s wrong with doing something different that people seem to like?

But they know that they’ve been having fun with the system for a long time, and both regular (Brawl) and quirky (Zack & Wiki, Rayman Raving Rabbids, etc.) games work on it. Seriously, you don’t know what you’re talking about. The Wii is not a fad. If that were the case, development and consumer interest would be slowing down, but it’s not.

Yeah, when will people be willing to plop down the cash for an HD TV? I know graphics whores will, but since the Wii is popular with the hardcore and average alike I don’t think it matters at this point in time as much as you’re making it seem.

To add on to my last point, I know a lot of people who don’t have HD TVs and aren’t interested in one, and it depends on your demographic in terms of buying an HD TV or not. I still have an old CRT in my bedroom, and it works perfectly fine. Not everyone is going to magically switch in two seconds (though I need a new TV because one of the AV ports doesn’t work, so I can only have one system plugged in at a time.) It might take a handful of years (maybe 4-5) to get the majority of people to switch. Only the most hardcore of the hardcore will truly be enthused. I’m going to switch once I move to Maryland for my game design training (don’t wanna be arsed with having to move a NEW TV with me. I’ll get rid of my old one and then buy a new one there.) So, er, careful with those hyperboles. ;/

Arielle is right!! the days of physical media are numbered. downloading will be the future not blu ray or hd dvd. if you compare the numbers sold-even combine hd dvd and blu ray, you will be astounded of how much dvd destroyes them both. people just do not care to hike the cash for an hdtv! look at it this way, ps3=600.00 a good hdtv 1080p, 1800.00, plus the hdmi cable 30.00. plus another 60.00 just for a game and vioalla…almost 26,00.00 dollars at once, and really how much television and games does one do in a week? unless you are an out of work bum or a child who does not even do chores, why would you spend that much?? microsoft knows this and so do developers! that is why the ps3 is not selling well, not because its a bad console, but it is way over priced, and people know blu ray is not the next gen format!! dvd is and will be here for the next 10 to 20 years. ever heard of triple layer?

cut it? how`s this, when you bring about a new product that is supposed to be ingeniuos, and you still get beaten by your old product, well thats just plain stupid and embarrassing!! now that everything that was important on the ps series is now on the best console, nothing much matters anymore for the ps3. mgs4 will not be the savior for the ps3, it will not move that many consoles to matter! sony should be ashamed of themselves. if they would not have tried so hard to push the shitty format they might have been able to focus on games instead and probably could have come back to first place. those days are over, why don`t sony ask nintendo how it feels? lol. i`d say by the numbers of loss- it`s now sony`s turn to be in first place. sony just dont have enough time or money as M$ and if this continues, sony will drop the ps3 and continue with the ps2, and it might be the beast selling console, but as everyone claims M$ did–they had a head start!! forget about all the flaming and namecalling, look at what microsoft has done to the gaming giant since 2001? it will continue, when M$ wants to control something-they will, this time they have to do it slowly!

I hope you guys are investors, the way you’re spitting out numbers. I like gaming but I hate spending money. But for the imbeciles, I’ll define certain terms for you guys. REVENUE: Money generated. PROFIT: Revenue minus COST. Ummkay?! So the MS numbers you were spitting out are PROFIT (in the black). Sony is in the hole, they lost money. They didn’t make a profit on the PS3(they’re in the red). They took in less, than they put out. Kinda like most consumers in this day and age. But you must be that character that has three PS3′s…lol.

Ok everyone, heres the deal, i just went out and bought another 360, because of the reviews that bioshock was getting. and so i went ahead and purchased bioshock as well. IT SUCKED. and everyone i have talked to, says the same thing, cool concept shitty graphics and gameplay. I also rented and am now playing halo 3. its absolutely no different than 1 or 2. just prettier. But uh, so you guys can call me a hypocrite. but i know when i get MGS4, and GT5, my 360 will be collecting dust. the only thing i have to look forward to now for the 360 is…oh mass effect, and halo wars. i hope they’re good. The 360s pretty much reached its technological limit. theres no way you guys can deny that.

by the way, all you guys that are ripping on the PS3, you should go out and buy one. you know you will when the price drops. its already starting to sell ALMOST as good as the wii is in japan. and if you say it wont start selling well when MGS4 comes out? think again. Rachet and Clank really boosted sales, and its just a kids game.

So i have what to look forward to on the PS3?
Haze, MGS4, GT5, both FF13s, Rachet and Clank, Killzone 2, Uncharted, Little Big Planet, UT3(as of now, the 360 version cant be confirmed), and i guess heavenly sword, since i havent bought that yet.

i will say this though, yes sony really lied bout the ps3, and exagerated on quite a few things, but so has Nintendo and MS, its just the name of the game. and though the way games keep getting pushed back for the PS3 is depressing, its gunna be well worth my money when they all come out.

oh and blu-ray, IS a good idea, and im glad the PS3 has it, cause alot of the games coming out would not be possible without it. and i hear MS is coming out with a HD-DVD version of the 360. damn i guess i really feel cheated, since i just bought the “elite” verison.

All it boils down to everyone, is this, you cant get the same experience with just one console

the ps3 is still pricy with a shortage of games that take advantage of the hardware, but if you got to have GT, MGS, FF, then you got to get it. the console itself is far more reliable than any other. free online gaming, and its a very good blu-ray player.

the 360 as far as hardware goes, sucks. but online play, and its few exclusive games is what made me buy a THIRD one.

The wii is for kids and chicks, mario has fell far from the tree it was grown. though the ability to play all nintendo games is a first and a plus, though its going to chow down memory sticks, which will get expensive.

You cant disagree with that, that is my Completly Unbiased opinion. i have all three consoles i know all of their weaknesses and strengths. But in overall staying, and lasting power sony proves to be very loyal. i just wish that game designers would crack the cell a little faster and get the good games coming.

oh but if you guys want to get technical, the 360 is in LAST place in the console wars. everywhere in the world the ps3 and wii outsell the 360 except for the US. and the wii sells the best because of the price obviously. the Playstation family will always do well in japan, so there is no way it will ever die, niether will nintendo. though i really doubt xbox will last much longer. They still actually sell more GBAs than 360 in japan!!! and here in the states its the most used console. but then again that could be because of the year long head start.

Just remember this, the PS2 faced the exact same problems when it first came out, and look at it now, the best selling console of all time, the most widely used console of all time. and with all the new news reports coming in, it seems like the PS3 is starting down that road as well.

the xbox brand will never die though, so dont worry, unless bungie really does hook up with sony, you know, since their contract is almost finished with MS. i wonder what game will be xbox

Cut-scenes are so 1990′s! I’m glad they’re bringing back the LAST GEN rumble at least. Can’t wait for the MGS4 and KillZone to come out so you guys can finally get the picture. From what’s been previewed, I dunno! I do smell another let down. Please get the grief counselors ready.

I know this thread is old but I thought I would follow up because I got a PS3 when the price dropped to $399 several months ago. Well, it started giving me the disc read error and I sent it in thinking it would be covered by warranty with no issues. Now Sony has contacted me and told me it would cost $150 for service as the unit appears to have seen unually high wear and usage. What the hell does that mean? They didn’t even tell me what was wrong with it. So you are only covered if you don’t actually use your PS3?? I responded and am waiting for a response. If I have to pay $150 for this I will be so pissed. More reason to stick with my 360 and Wii.
