Green Day
I remember a discussion a few weeks back that my cousin and a friend were having over which Music band was the biggest, one thought that Green Day are the biggest band ever.

With so many bands around and people supporting 100’s of different bands, we all have a nice choice of music…but there can only be only that is the BIGGEST BAND.

So let us know in the comments which band is your favorite and who you think is the world’s biggest band ever.

Surely it’s The Beatles or another and not Green Day.

It has to be The Beatles or The Rolling Stones. But you shouldnt underestimate bands like Green Day, they have every chance of becoming the biggest band in the world… Sadly U2 are probably up there too… still, you can’t win them all eh?

Green Day is a great band, no doubt. But the biggest band ever? Not even close. Does anybody really think they will be talking about Green Day 100 years from now? How about the Beatles? They are still being talked about and they still sell millions of albums every year, and they broke up over 35 years ago. They will be talked about 100 years from now, just as we still talk about Mozart and Beethoven. Nobody will even know who Green Day is in 100 years.

The only reason I would pick the Beatles over the Stones is that, as great as the Stones are, they never really changed music as we know it. They put out great music, and certainly have lasted a long time. But every album the Beatles put out changed things. They made people go, “Wow! Where did that come from!!!?”. The Stones just put out great, solid rock and roll. But didn’t really have the groundbreaking moments the Beatles did. The Stones will always be remembered as a great band, no doubt. But I don’t think anybody will ever top the Beatles. They are the biggest band ever.

My favorite band of all time is Public Enemy! “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back” is probably the greatest album ever recorded. If you don’t believe that rap is also rock then I guess you’ve never heard Run-DMC’s “Rock Box.”

The Beatles are a close second though. After that would be James Brown and his band the J.B.s. Green Day doesn’t even make my top hundred.

It’s the Beatles first. Then the Rolling Stones. And then The Who. Fourth is either Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin I’m not sure.

Nothing new here - The Beatles! Absolutely. Stones 2nd. Zeppelin 3rd. The Who 4th.

Green Day - they’re actually up there in my Top 10.

But also, for me only, I’d have to nominate The Ramones Top 10, Nirvana (but only for the importance they had for their time), Sabbath (but more for Ozzy than anything else) and strangely enough I’d have to give nods to Eric Clapton & Cream.

Thiscoming from a 39 year old who didn’t know much about Clapton until 1977’s “Lay Down Sally” and didn’t even like him until ’81’s “I Can’t Stand It”.

    But definately worth it.

As much as i love Green Day, the Beatles undoubtedy win right now. However, that could change. I think Green Day has the potential if they keep evolving as a band, and as much as people hate to admit it, they have influenced a lot of the music scene.

The Beatles, without a doubt. Green Day is terrific; but…and I think that even they would agree; the Beatlews they’re not. No-one is. The Beatles changed the world when you get right down to it. and to “John” who thinks Public Enenmy is the greatest band ever; I respect you’re opinion………BUT………they aren’t a ripple on the ocean that the Beatles were/are.

    Peace,
    Rick

Guns n’ Roses were huge also don’t underestimate the effect Green day had on punk by paving the way for bands such as blink 182 and sum 41.

Green Day? You gotta be kidding me! Has anyone here ever heard of N.W.A., The Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, Sly and the Family Stone, Bob Marley and the Wailers, Wu-Tang Clan or De La Soul? And yes, Public Enemy and Run-DMC are great picks as well. The Beatles are most certainly number one, but Green Day? Come on!!!!!!

ermmm…..I used to listen Green Day a lot but I don’t think they are the best ever, although they are considered one of the most succesfull bands in punk rock ( of course with Sex Pistols )

The Beatles ermmm…. they used to be but they are not anymore….

I think that Iron Maiden has a History on Metal so they are the best ever. Every song is great, every solo is great, every album is great, all the lyrics are great…everythin about Iron Maiden is great……I’m the biggest fan of Iron Maiden ever and they are the best band ever.

Here’s the list of number of results returned by google. Now you tell me who is the biggest band.

    “Beatles” - 55,800,000
    “U2″ - 47,000,000
    “Rolling Stones” - 9,890,000
    “Pink Floyd” - 8,420,000
    “Green Day” - 6,570,000
    “The Who” - 6,550,000
    “Led Zeppelin” - 4,940,000
    “Iron Maiden” - 3,000,000
    “Public Enemy” - 2,280,000

Look up anybody you want. Only U2 comes close to the Beatles and that’s probably because it’s also the name of a spy plane as well as only 2 letters that probably occurs millions of times having nothing to do with the band.

  14. harley on October 31st, 2007 3:50 am

it is green day, no doubt about it

  15. Ben on October 31st, 2007 6:29 pm

Here are the number of results that Google returned for Britney Spears. I guess that means she is almost as talented as U2 and the Beatles. Yeah, right!

    Britney Spears-44,900,000

  16. Lynn on October 31st, 2007 6:34 pm

Elvis Presley only came up with 4,880,000 results from Google. Yeah that Elvis, he sure didn’t to a thing to change the face of music. What a hack!

    (Sarcasm intended.)
