Ryan Gosling Left The Lovely Bones Because He Was Too Fat?

We told you a couple of days ago that Ryan Gosling had been replaced by Mark Wahlberg in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Lovely Bones just hours before production began. At the time, the reasons for this were unknown but now, we can tell you exactly why Ryan Gosling left.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Gosling’s weight gain was too much for the Lord of the Rings director. Apparently, Gosling showed up to start work “looking like he’d donned a fat suit.”

Apparently, Gosling wanted to put some weight on and grow a beard in order to look older. The result was far from what Jackson expected.

“Jackson was still expecting some movie star allure — not paunch and a beard.”

But, New York Post’s Page Six seems to have a different take on what happened, claiming that Gosling’s demanding and controlling attitude led to the actor’s replacement,

“‘Peter couldn’t stand Ryan,’ said one source. Though Variety reported that Gosling had “stepped down” and was replaced by Mark Wahlberg, our source said, ‘Ryan cut his own hair, and was fighting with wardrobe. He was so demanding . . . Peter booted him two days before filming started.’”

Whichever story is the truth, it’s a shame because although Gosling is a phenomenal actor, it seems his ego has got in the way!
