Fire crews are still trying to bring the fires under control in southern California, but is seems as if these firefighters have all but admitted defeat as the strong winds make their job impossible. Two people have now died from these wild-fires and many more injured and it is thought that up to one million people have been forced to flee to avoid these flames.
This is now the biggest evacuation in California’s history which is why President Bush has declared a federal emergency, the emergency is for seven of the counties in southern California. Bush is expected to visit this region on Thursday.
It is thought that the fire will not subside for another day at least, this is because the strong winds is the driving force behind the fires now, there is little that the fire crews can do but just wait for these winds to die down.
Over 600 square miles has now been burned down and in the process destroying over 1,600 homes, which is why residents from the North of California all the way down to San Diego County and also across to Mexico have has to flee their homes.
