This weekend was extremely disappointing at the box office. 30 Days of Night (Sony) didn’t have the weekend it had hoped for, Gone Baby Gone had a mediocre weekend and there were a whole load of bombs. The movies which bombed at the box office were The Comebacks (Fox), Rendition (New Line), Things We Lost in the Fire (Dreamworks/Paramount), Sarah Landon & the Paranormal Hour (Freestyle Releasing) and The Ten Commandments (Rocky Mountain Pictures). Hollywood hopes that November will bring a box office boom.
The estimated combined weekend gross this weekend was only $78.44 million. It’s the fourth weakest October 3-day since October 1999. The first 3 weekends in October of 2007 are down 20% from last year.
But Hollywood shouldn’t fear as Box office prospects for November are looking up as the release of Bee Movie (DreamWorks/Paramount) will be rolled out coast-to-coast.
Why do you think October was such a box office failure?
