San Diego County, California fires continue: orange county fire authority hampered by winds

The fires still continue in San Diego County southern California, normally the orange county fire authority would have had these wildfires under control by now but strong gale-force winds has hampered that effort. Hundreds of homes have now been destroyed and more than 250,000 people have been told to evacuate schools, neighborhoods and hospitals. In all about 13 fires are raging across the southern California region, over 200,000 acres have now been destroyed, 30 people have been injured and sadly one person has been killed.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger realized that the fire crews were being overwhelmed, which is why has has sent 1,500 troops from the National Guard. Nevada and Arizona states have also rushed in crews, and President George W. Bush has also offered assistance to Schwarzenegger for some of the worst hit areas.
