Xbox 360 games Mass Effect, COD4, Assassins Creed and Fallout 3: PS3 getting arse kicked

One of my colleagues recently did the post Xbox 360 Outsells PS3 5 to 1: Which Is Your Favorite Console?, and he had some great comments on his post, and one of this comments I just had to post so we could all have a read. The individual who posted the comment does raise a good point, read it and let us know what you think.

Here is the comment
Why does everyone keep on forgetting about mass effect it comes out next month and so does COD4 and assassins creed and also next year, end war, Fallout 3 exclusive to 360 so who really is going to have the best holiday this year and next year um… I would have to say the Xbox 360 because who can trust Sony there always re-dating things and holding back on stuff Sony has no clue what they are doing, the game or community home is not going to be as great as they say, you can’t even find your friends on PSN what makes you think you’re going to find them on that Home game?

Wow it’s so crazy how people just forget about these other awesome games that are coming out for the Xbox 360. And why do you possibly think Mario galaxy is going to sell consoles if there are Nintendo fans out there that still has a GameCube and waiting for some Mario game to come out for them to get a Wii they are stupid wouldn’t you think everyone that wanted a Wii would have got it for the Zelda game look most Wii are selling because some fat people out there heard about Wii fitness and heard how many cals you burn and went out and bought it for that reason.

Halo3 is an awesome game and it’s not the last one people they said they are going to make some more but it’s about what happened before the halos.

Fallout 3 is multiplatform, for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. (Unless the PS3 version has been canceled and I don’t know about it… then PS3 is really doomed.)

The comment is completely biased every game mentioned except for Halo 3 & Mass Effect are multiplatform. Who knows what will happen I personally have all three systems, I think the PS3 has more leg room than both the Wii and 360. They have a ton of exclusives coming out that’s sparking a lot of interest in the gaming community.

    P.S.
I bought my 360 for Mass effect & Gears not Halo 3 which is actually Halo 2.5 an average to good game by no means great.

I bought my Wii for my daughter but really wanted to play Zelda & Galaxy (actually it collects a lot of dust right now, I have to remind my daughter to play it).

I bought my PS3 for FF13, MGS4, Ratchet & Clank, & SOCOM along with its blue ray capabilities and as a true media center instead of puchasing my fourth computer(i.e. build).

    Here’s an interesting observation:

A lot of people keep saying Xbox 360 is only good for FPS and online play. But I’m not much of a FPS or shooter fan, and I hate the juvenile deliquesces that plague online multiplayer. So people don’t quite understand why I bought an Xbox 360 over PS3.

I am, however, a big fan of Western RPGs. It’s WESTERN, not Japanese RPGs, which I despise. WRPGs and JRPGs are distinctively different genres with very different play style, characterization, setting, storytelling, and other design philosophies.

Western RPG is one genre that PS3 has nothing to offer, currently and in the foreseeable future. PS3 has Elder Scroll IV: Oblivion and will have Fallout 3, but those two titles are also available for Xbox 360. However, PS3 does not have any exclusive Western RPG, currently nor in the pipeline.

On other other hand, Xbox 360 has a fairly strong lineup of exclusive or semi-exclusive Western RPGs. I don’t have to say Mass Effect is the big one. Then there is another big one Fable 2. Too Human is another (controversial but still high-profile) WRPG trilogy. Dungeon Explorer remake is another one that’s coming out for Xbox 360 but not PS3 – but do not confuse it with Dungeon Hero, which is also an Xbox 360 semi-exclusive WRPG. Project Offset. Might & Magic: Dark Messiah. Elveon.

Those are all Western RPGs. Those are all exclusive to Xbox 360.

What Western RPG can PS3 offer me in terms of exclusivity? Nothing. Nada. Not a zit.

(PS3 does have plenty of exclusive Japanese RPGs, though. But I have already noted I have a distaste for JRPGs.)

(I hate the online multiplayer iteration of WRPG as well, so Sony’s strong background in creating Western MMORPGs like EverQuest and Star Wars: Galaxies count for nothing for me. I just dislike most if not all online multiplayer games without an overarching story with a beginning and an end.)

The point here is: for people who are big fans of single-player Western RPGs, the PS3 really has nothing to offer.

  • MAC

    Almost forgot about:
    Haze PS3
    Ace Comat 360
    Mario Kart Wii

  • Giovanni

While I agree with some of these points, this is the most ridiculously Xbox biased post I’ve read in a while.

How does this site qualify for Google news?

  • Norbit

Call of Duty 4, Fallout 3 and Assassins Creed are on the PS3 as well which makes your article a bit dumb.

These games are due exclusively on the PS3 before the end of the year:

    Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction
    SOCOM: Confrontation
    Time Crisis 4
    Haze

And these are some of the games coming next year exclusively on the PS3:

    Metal gear Solid 4
    LittleBigPlanet
    Gran Turismo 5
    Final Fantasy 13
    Killzone 2
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier
    The Getaway 3
    Tekken 6
    MotorStorm 2
    Infamous

The PS3 lineup looks stronger whatever way you look at it. As proved by this chart http://i22.tinypic.com/2lmqhc6.jpg the PS3 has sold as well as the 360 did it its first year and that’s with a high price and no big games. Imagine how well its going to sell when there is a reason to buy one.

  • MAC

I understand your point but I’m a gamer I play every thing and the PS3 seems to be coming up with a more diverse offering than the others.
By the way Project Offset & Elveon also on PS3.

  • jaime

Also what is that blindless epidemy, all people talk about games for xbox 360 like they were exclusives…
COD4, Assassins Creed and Fallout 3 will make to the PS3.
Also games that were called exclusive like lost planet, oblivion make later to the PS3.
Bioshock and Orange Box are PC games that were ported to the xbox 360.
Even gears of war and halo will be released for PC, and the PC version of gears of war will be the full game, not that rushed version that make to the xbox 360.

Please tell me 1 single game i need a xbox 360 to play it.

I know that if i want to play mario and zelda i must buy nintendo or never play it, cause they are EXCLUSIVES.
God of War and Final Fantasy XII only can be played only in playstation.

xbox fanboys, let me tell you some true EXCLUSIVES to the ps3, that never will be ported to PC or other console:
heavenly sword, motorstorm, resistance fall of man, ratchet and clank future tools of destruction, liar, the eye of judgment, folklore, uncharted drakesfortune, warhawk, F1 formula 1 championship…and thats just the first year.
now tell me 1 true EXCLUSIVE xbox 360 game, that i must buy a xbox 360 to play it.

  • Phil Harrison

Look at all the bitter PS3 fans crying out there about how their system is superior, well guess what?…..You’re right…..BUT! would I pay the hefty price for a system which main exclusives haven’t arrived yet? Sure you might of have lower the price of the system, BUT is it too late? the XBOX 360 and the WII already have found a mass popularity and it would outgrow the PS3 loyal fans because more and more are converting to the greatness of XBOX 360. I love the PS3, but at the price it’s in, I would rather Buy an XBOX 360 or WII anyday.

P.S. What is it with killzone 2?
The first one sucked, so what makes sony think we wanted more?

  • MAC

Jamie you make a great point because all the othe WRPGS in that comment are coming to the PC first and the 360 does not realy have many true exclusives.
Although Mass Effect I believe is despite rumors of a later port over to PS3 & PC and Ace I believe also is.

P.S. Halo 3 may be because the PC community in many ways despises this game.

  • Worst Fanboy Post Eva

That was such a stupid article I can’t believe I’m bothering to reply! It’s inaccurate fanboy nonsense mascerading as a news article, the author should be embarrassed about quoting it.

With the exception of Mass Effect EVERY OTHER GAME listed in that story is coming to the PS3 as well! Hardly a great advert for the future of the 360 post-Halo…

I won’t bother listing the various big budget PS3 exclusives coming out in the next few months as Norbit has done a good job above, though I can think of a few more on top of those…

  • TheOne

Get a life! I see that you are having a wet dream just because Sony threw you a couple dog bones and promises that may or may not become a reality.

There is no game for PS3 right now. motorstorm was ok for a while but Fall of men is mediocre at best. It is not even in the same league as Halo or Gear of War.

I dislike both Sony and MS. There is only one thing they care about:profits. They will step on you or me to get what they want. So please, dont get all excited and wet yourself defending either one of them.

(snap! put that in your ps3 and kick it lol) some nice titles for the old Xbox and in case some can’t figure this out some titles developed by MS pc companies can and will go on to the Xbox and that in it self should add more titles in the long run that people can play on the Xbox 360. ps3 games are not selling the system like the Xbox games are until they have a MGS, FF13, or Gran Turismo most gamers are going to get other systems.

  • Brian Murphy

The only reason anyone should ever consider buying an Xbox 360, is if they confirm that they’re releasing a new Steel Batallion game. All else is pretty much hype fueled by the bottomless pockets of M$. I’m pretty sure this writer receives dividends from M$ also.

  • Norbit

Ive been trying to post a list of PS3 exclusives but it isnt working because I think its too long so I’ll try splitting it in two.

It still won’t work so here is the full list in notepad format:

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/13jfyk

There are 95 for the PS3 which obviously dwarfs the 51 that were posted earlier.

  • Tomas

    Hey guys…

Just think a little, why would the administrators from this site publish something like that?

Lets see… NONE of the games in the title are exclusive, everyone knows that, so why publish that crap? For clics of course, money on these sites are made by the ammount of cliks people make in the displayed ads.

More, the article is totaly BIASED (as all from this site), so I trully believe a certain company is paying them to generate bad image to the other brands.

And thinking this junk is in google news…

  • xbox 360 all the way

Yo norbit most of those games you put in those list had some of the worst ratings in a consoles history but if you look at the xbox 360 list witch is longer there is only like one game that has had under a 7.5 rating so no matter how many games you think sony has they suck they dont get good ratings or anything. I only see three good games on that list man and you know there is no more. Hey man just look at how many good games are on that list that shogun showed thats the reason why xbox 360 is outselling the ps3 5 to 1.

  • Norbit

It wont let me post the second part of the list. There are 99 titles in all which is far more than the 360 list which was 51.

  • xbox 360 all the way

Hey people! I hate when people use oh its not exclusive because it goes to the PC well it is because Microsoft still controls what goes on the Pc they pretty much own the PC with the windows live which is Microsofts and thats is what you use the play gears of war or any other game that is exclusive to the xbox 360 so no matter what you say its still an exclusive to the xbox 360. And also you sony fans having a good oh time because the ps3 finally got lost planet when the xbox 360 has had it almost a year well have fun with it because its old news to us you sony fans will be the only ones on gamebattles or mlg playing it while us fans with the xbox 360s is playing mass effect,Halo 3, COD4, and a bunch of others.

  • Norbit

@ xbox 360 all the way

The 360 is only outselling the PS3 in the US. Worldwide the PS3 has sold far more this year than the 360.

BTW its strange that you say ‘most’ of the games I listed are rubbish when most of them haven’t been released yet. I think that makes you an idiot.

The list of 99 PS3 exclusives:

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/qsjjhm

  • voice of reason

    Read this carefully.

PS3 sold about as many PS3′s as M$ did in the same periode after launch. PS3 was much more expensive, had no good games, had very strong competition from Nintendo and M$, but still they sold as good as M$ did with a full year without competition… oh, and PS3 still faces reporters payed to bash PS3 as is the case here! What do you think will hapen now that Sony lowered the price and is about to launch some excellent games. ( fallout 3, and CoD included)… Face reallity, Sony WINS!

  • Norbit

@ xbox 360 all the way

An exclusive is a title that is only on one system which means you have to buy that system to play it. 360 games that are on the PC are not exclusives. I dont have a 360 but I am currently enjoying Bioshock so how can that possibly be a 360 exclusive?

The PS3 has more exclusives than the 360 and it has far bigger games dues for release over the next year. Gran Turismo on its own sells an average of over 11m copies per episode which is over 4m more than Halo does.

BTW COD4 is also on the PS3.

  • Zman the Wise

It must verily chap thy hides to be arguing over second place to the wii. Please no “Grandmasandretardsbuystehwii” lameness. Neither my grandma nor my retarded cousin show any interest in getting a wii. On the other hand all of my college friends (save 2) have and enjoy the wii, and only one of them has a 360. I think we have a statistical anomally on our hands.

In short wii is making a rediculous amount of cash, I have no idea what’s up with microsoft, and SONY just had so sell all their CELL production units or factories or whatever you call ‘em to main competitor toshiba. Just the facts folks. Money makes the world go round.

In all fairness the above article is about as newsworthy as michael Jacksn’s three headed alien stepchild from the sixth dimension.

  • Zman the Wise

I do love Metroid though. Most fun I’ve ever had single player…ever. SSX Blur was sweet. I didn’t like Twilight princess nearly as much as I thought I would. I’m a huge mario64 fan though and Galaxy looks amazing. Really though I look foreward to the Wii2 or whatever it’s called beecause I would like to play call of duty 4 with an IR remote. I just don’t like thumbsticks now. Oh well. When you’re not rolling in money you pick the console that fits you best. You win some, you lose some. There are some truly amazing looking games on the other two but I’ll take Metroid, Galaxy, and Brawl any day. Not sure about No more heroes though I’ll probably give it a whirl.

(Y’see what I did there? I listed games that are already out or said future releases “look amazing,” stop whipping out lists of exclusives that will someday grace your console and screaming “mine’s bigger!” In all likelyhood only a tenth of those lists will be truly great and less than half even worth owning)

  • Editorial

This an editorial. How the hell is this on Google news. Pete is beyond biased. I think Microsoft is paying him to advertised their console. I own all three consoles and they all have games that I want.

The wii I bought because I enjoy playing Zelda, Mario, and mostly any other game made by Nintendo.

Xbox360, I bought because of all the quality games that are out right now that include Halo 3, Bioshock.

PS3, It doesn’t have that many games right now but I bought it because I wanted to enjoy the few quality games that have come out.

People shouldn’t bash the system. Lately, It feels that people are bitching just for the sake of bitching. Doesn’t it feel like there is always someone bitching about something now a days. The thing I hate about it is that they try to pass this thing as news. This is news, this is just one person oppinion on the products that I love and care very much about.

I guess everyone is an analyst this day.

Peter: “who can trust Sony.” I guess from Peter’s logic, I would have never bought a console. I guess next time a game is delayed or a game doesn’t meet my highest standard. I might as well sell my system and never play again. How many times have Nintendo delayed their games or even Microsoft. I guess he wants this companies to put out a mediocre product as long as they meet their projected release date. Peter is joke and I sorry I wasted my freaking time reading and responding to this post.

  • Zman the Wise

Oh and Zack and Wiki just got a 9.0 from IGN. That game sounds like the final puzzles will make your brains bleed. You wanna supprt originality and give yourself a reason to dust of your wii? Go buy that game!
Zman out! (for real this time)

  • PSPoo

LOL!!! Sony fans make me laugh, live in the now, not the sony coloured future, your console has no good games on it!!!!Its a big fat vcr lookin’ joke

  • OMEN

Peter licks microsoft’s ass ha haa haaa.

i bet his 360 is a third one that he owns, cuz the other ones overheated LOL.
ps3 is the best console in the market.ITS A FACT and everyone knows it even the developers, but it need some good sofware to make better games…PS will own 2008

  • OMEN

lost planet??? i dont really care about that game, and halo is shit,i like battlefield 1942 more than halo 3

  • Norbit

    @ Zman the wise.

I would bet everything I have that in 8 or 9 years time the PS3 will have outsold the Wii by a long way. Unless they can get the non gamers who have bought the console to start buying more games the developers will leave the system. There is also the little matter that 100m+ people bought the PS1 then bought the PS2. What do you think they will move on to next? The Wii? I think not because there isn’t really an improvement over the PS2. At some point a large amount of those 100m will end up buying a 360 or PS3 with the PS3 being the eventual winner. I reckon the PS3 will overtake the 360s total sales by the end of next year and the Wii by the end of 2010. Remember that the PS3 is going to be supported for around 10 years so in 6 or 7 years time when the Wii is long gone there will be PS3s on sale for $100 with a huge back catalogue of games just like the PS2 is at the moment.

  • Zman the Wise

    @ Norbit

True SONY’s always been in it for the long haul, but the PS1 and PS2 both had an INITIAL lead on their generations in sales by at least year 2. The PS3 is what, less than half of either Microsoft or Nintendo? I don’t really care as long as the Wii keeps getting wii games but it doesn’t look like SONY’s ever going to catch up. Look at what the last price drop did. It helped but it wasn’t the jumpstart Sony was looking for. Now with all the big games being moved back to next year they’re looking to do next to nothing this holiday season. And of course that’s the biggest selling tme of the entire year, when people hedonistically throw caution to the wind and dive into debt like its a swimming pool with gold pieces lying on the floor. You can’t ever give up on a holiday selling season. It’s just bad business.
As to the software sales for the wii. Honestly the PS3 does not have a good attach rate for games either. It’s actually pretty bad. Why? because many people buy it for the blu-ray. That’s money to SONY regardless, but not their gaming division. And I bet the money made on bluray DVD’s doesn’t cover the loss suffered on each system. Not everyone who buys the PS3 even has a game for it (besides the pack in). You know sony was marketing the ps3 as a cheap bluray player for a while. Square-enix called them out on it. And it’s true, a lot of the older set own it for the bluray so I don’t see software sales being that great for the already small number of PS3s that are sold.
Looking at that its the PS3 that the developers are leaving. Just the facts now.
Granted nintendo will have killed the wii in 3 years because the wii 2 will be out by then. They know the wii has limited staying power. It was a market test product for cryin out loud. Anyone who believes the wii is underpowered because nintendo cares about the consumer is nuts. It’s underpowered for the simple reason that nintendo was bleeding money on the cube and wanted to try something different to make money. Big consoles cost big bucks and Nintendo doesn’t have alarge corporation behind it like MS or SONY that can absorb the cost of machines sold at a loss. The new control scheme was a big risk and if it hadn’t payed off they wanted to have the finances to have one more go at the console race in 2010 with another high powered machine like the cube was to it’s generation.
MOST IMPORTANTLY HOWEVER, it does not matter if the PS3 outsells the wii in units. It’s all about profits. Sold at a loss, and now a more significant loss than ever with the price drop, SONY is absolutely banking on software sales to put them back in the black. Its a business model microsoft used with the original XBOX. But as of now PS3 has no halo (in terms of popularity not quality) to get profits from.
Since we’re talking about software sales, lets talk about Metal Gear Solid 4. The game visually looks amazing, and according to all reports, plays as good as it looks. The only question is, will it be a system seller? It’s unique, no doubt about it, and if SONY advertizes it right to make it look like a shooter ithey could pull it off. But I’m not a big fan of decieving the customer. Metal gear is a stealth/action game. If people know that or get hands on time with the title and find out it’s not action packed (meaning I shoot my buddy in teh face a lot, hur hur hur)it might not sell very well at all. Look at what sells the best. Shooters are #1 right? Resistance was so darl it looked like a horror/shooter which is robably why it didn’t do as well
SONY got away from the original business model that made them so successful. A cheaper less powerful console released way ahead of the pack and gets a foothold on the market thus getting the most quality games and licensing that people love like crazy. I ask you why? why did the PS3 not come out before the 360 and snatch up all the licensing and exclusives before microsoft could even show their system? The answer is Bluray. SONY wanted to win the format war in Hi Def DVDs so they sacrificed their gaming division because as we already know SONY is a long haul profit company and owning the rights to the next DVD format would bring in more profits than gamers can give, way way more. It’s about money dude. And SONY was counting on brand name to sell the system and the system to sell Bluray. It probably would have worked too if they’d been able to bring out the PS3 when they wanted, but after all the delays it was a little late to the market and (in the eyes of many of the consumers) offered the same as the 360 but for a much higher price.
Plus SONY has lost a lot of popuatity as a company. They don’t have the Brand Name selling power they used to when everything SONY was gold. They might make it back with their organic flat panel TV’s (those things look sweet!) but as of now, people hear SONY and get a bad taste in their mouths. Hopefully that will change.
I really hope SONY does better. COmpetition makes evryone try harder and the onsumer benefits most, so I would like a close race all the way through. But please don’t bet anything you have on the success of a stupid gaming console. For all we know all consoles could fail inside 9 months and the iPhone could take over as the new standard in gaming. Youve already laid down around $1000 (assuming you got the best system some good games and extra controllers) for the sstem. Isn’t that a significant enough risk for you? After all you never know Nintendo could go bankrupt and I could be left with a little white box that doesn’t play dvds, or SONY could cut production in the world market and focus on recapturing the homeland with rolling /dancing music players. You have put that money down on a machine with promise, tons of promise. But if SONY caled it quits I’d bet you wouldn’t think you’d gotten your money’s worth would you. Let SONY worry about SONY’s wellbeing. You just play the games as the come out. You don’t have to defend them on everything y’know.
Wow…that was a really long post. Next time I’ll just keep it to myself and write “I like the Wii. Nuff said.”
The worst part about it is no one reads long posts. they skim the fist paragraph and read the ending.

Hello all you who are just joining us! feel free to skip this whole thing.

The point? PS3 wont have a huge back catalogue of games if developers leave. Developers wont stay if the PS3 doesn’t sell well and those that do are used as media centers not gaming machines. And 6 or 7 years down the road no one will care about the last gen. You’re still thinking of the PS2 and ps1 which released early so 7 years later was barely into the NEXT GENERATION. I give the PS3 5 years of good selling power because it released late. Plus there will be no underpowered wii2 to port games over to the PS3 from, which is what’s keeping the PS2 alive acording to some analysts. (at least I hope it’s not underpowered again. Oh please no!) I mean, if you’re gonna make a wii version you might as well keep the specs low so it ports across well. And really how much money will SONY even be making on the PS3 at that point? So far they haven’t been able to turn a profit on their gaming division in quite some time. Like I already said they SOLD their cell processor making plants to their main competitor, TOSHIBA.
OK I gotta go outside and do…something. I can’t believe I wasted this much of my life typing this! Not very wise of me. hmm..
    Zman out!!

You know what’s funny.. I remember 2.5 years ago most people were saying they were going to buy the PS3 and how it was going to be the dominating console. It also seemed like no one was interested in the Wii (Revolution at the time) and that it was going to be DOA. LOL! Man how things have changed…

  • http://www.putfile.com/halo-xtreme 2900d4u

some people are saying that they are buying the ps3 because of all the features it has. and i can tell you 360 has more! marketplace were you can download full games, arcade games, themes, pictures, demos, videos and game content. the best online things. (video chat, messenger, normal chat and messages, picture messages, a great online system) the 3660 has everything the ps3 has and more! and about the graphics: i’ve played some games on ps3 and 360 and i realy don’t see any difference. i don’t say ps3 is bad… it’s good but 360 is definatly the best!
and i don’t have to say anything about the wii…. it just sucks

o and the facts: 360 sold most consoles in U.S.A,
more than the ps3 in europe and more than ps3 in Japan. and 52% of all the 360 owners has halo 3.

also the xbox controllers are the best and the strongest. sorry for another long post :o

but i’m not ready yet :p
halo 3 beats EVERY entertaining launches ever!
(harry potter books and movies, star wars, spider man, all the other consoles) with a nice 300.000.000 $ the first day it came out and 500.000.000$ the first month it came out XD!

  • http://www.putfile.com/halo-xtreme 2900d4u

    o and some people said:

‘ Call of Duty 4, Fallout 3 and Assassins Creed are on the PS3 as well which makes your article a bit dumb ‘

ok you’re right but this games play so much better on a 360! don’t forget 360 has more games!

  • Mornelithe

Wow, brilliance 2900d4u, utter brilliance. So wait, you’re telling me that the 360 managed to put out more games in it’s 2 years than the PS3 in it’s first? I’m shocked. Sir, you should stop blogging right now, and become a super hero, your powers could be used to help all of mankind.

Seriously though, I bought a PS3, because of the games Sony’s first party distributors make. Like it nor not, Gran Turismo has sold 54 million units worldwide as a franchise, and is my most favorite racing game of all time. Final Fantasy XIII is going to dominate sales for a good long time. Metal Gear Solid 4 combined with Metal Gear Solid Online is going to be insanely good. 2008 is going to be a good year for the PS3. Will it be a match for what the 360 has done in 2007? Well, you have to admit, these _much_ longer standing franchises, as exclusives to the PS3, will undoubtedly push tremendous amounts of consoles. Yes, we have to wait, but…you know, the 360 didn’t exactly launch with a ‘stellar’ catalog either, did it? And look what it’s done now….even with significant hardware failure rates. But look at those titles…do you have any idea how many people are chomping at the bit to play just those 3 games? Now add in Haze, GTA4 (not exclusive but PS3 owners will still buy it for PS3), Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Home, Heavy Rain, Devil May Cry 4, Burnout Paradise, Wipeout HD, Dynasty Warriors 6, Castlevania, Resident Evil 5, Full Auto 2: Battlelines, whatever project Crytek is putting together, God of War 3, Tekken 6 and so much more…do you really think that the numbers of 2007 will repeat in 2008? Because, I really think you’re lying to yourself and everyone here. I’m geting all of those games I mentioned, by the way, as well as Bionic Commando for the PS3. ;)

As for the Playstation Network…it offers some things XBLA doesn’t, and XBLA offers some things that the PSN doesn’t. Both communities are rapidly evolving things, however, I believe that the PSN will offer a more free and unobtrusive environment for many developers/entities to utilize. Look at Folding@Home, prime example. I’m not talking machine specs here, I’m merely talking ability to do so. Microsoft won’t allow such flexibility in their network, and it’s pretty sad…especially given that you pay for the online service anyway.

Now, on to other things @ Zman the Wise:

I currently own 11 PS3 games purchased out of a store, 2 of which are collectors editions, add an additional 5 PSN Downloaded games, and that’s 16.
There is another game in the house that is not mine, because I hate Guitar Hero. But, it’s there, so 17. So, your claim of people owning PS3′s without having any games is pretty far-fetched, considering I know people who’ve bought games for the PS3, but don’t own one. LoL.

Developers leaving in droves eh? Yeah, that’s seriously a ton of garbage…check the news lately? There are many many games in developement for the PS3 at the moment, and there are more exclusives lined up for the PS3 than both the Wii and 360 combined for 2008, and that’s only counting 1st party developers. The Xbox 360 had a pretty decent 2nd year, can’t deny it, they still really really need to address the RROD issue and stomp it right out. Even if you don’t have to pay for the fixes, having to stop playing the game you were playing for an undetermined amount of time, due to shoddy hardware, will turn off any gamer. Having to do it multiple times, will lose you customers. But, I digress, this is Sony’s 2nd year, and considering they’ve been in the gaming business for awhile now, I’m pretty sure they’re looking to surpass what the Microsoft has achieved. It’ll be interesting to watch, that’s for sure.

Btw, one more thing to consider. With the Wii approaching 20 million consoles sold, and the 360 and PS3 at where they’re at (I don’t have numbers for those two off the top of my head), I’ll be fair and say roughly 85-90 million PS2 owners have yet to make a decision on their next console. Now, have you thought about if even let’s low ball it, and say 30% of those people, are waiting for any of those games that I just mentioned… you’re talking what 25 to 27 million people waiting for a PS3…because seriously, they’re not waiting for a 360 they’re readily available everywhere…the only possible direction is the under produced Wii (something Nintendo really needs to work on also), or the PS3. I’m not making predictions here, but I’m thinking about the future, and why 85-90 million people haven’t picked up a new console yet ;)

the ps3 will match the 360 because most games are coming out for both consoles. for shooters i like 360 most and are the only games i play. i don’t realy know anything about race and swordfighting games and how they sale. i’m excited for halo wars. it’ll be one of the best strategy games and has great graphics. only for 360.

and morne most games you mentioned are coming on 360 to. like burnout paradise, devil may cry and resident evil, and like you said GTA 4. games like CoD 4 and halo 3 are games that will be played untill the ps4 and a new xbox

nintendo still couldn’t make a good game in 2007.
they might get something in 2008….? nah….
and if they havea good it it’s on the other consoles to with much better controles

you’re right about the RRoD i think they’ve fixed it on the new 360′s. i’m one of the lucky gamers that never had them.

wow i’m getting good at long posts

  • Mornelithe

Ok, so let’s see, DMC4 and Burnout Paradise yeah, they’re coming out on the Xbox also, but, as you can see from the reviews…the PS3 versions are being touted as ‘better’. Exclusive DLC for DMC4 has already been confirmed for sure for the PS3. Not necessarily a must-have title though, really fun game, but not a system seller in my opinion. Haze is a timed exclusive, the PC and 360 versions were put on indefinite hold as of Leipzeg 2007, my guess is until the PS3 version is gone gold and is in stores. Dynasty Warriors 6 is already out, so not a big deal, but I love those Koei games, waiting for the US launch in February. RE5 is coming out on the 360, you’re right, but PS3 owners will still buy it.

Now, you’re still missing the bigger picture here. I mean…Final Fantasy…that game spans so many different platforms, not to mention 3 decades. Think that hasn’t created a big fanbase yet? That’s not happening on the 360. Gran Turismo? Over Sony’s dead body. MGS4 and MGSO? Well, the creator of the series has already emphatically stated, without any room for maneuvering, that it’s PS3 exclusive. As I said before, those 3 titles are as hyped or moreso than Halo. And Sony doesn’t even have to spend a dime on it, people spread the word on these like wildfire through a California countryside. They’re as much a phenomenon as Halo, however, I was never really into Halo. These games I am most interested in ;)

So, just sit back and watch, as I said, it’s definitely going to be an interesting year.

aren’t the final fantasy games like… realy bad??
and gran turismo? eeh ok but these games can’t be as hyped as halo. halo is THE biggest game ever with most sales in games and fastest sales in entertainment history

this will probably be my last post here… BYE

  • Mornelithe

Yeah, they’re so bad they’ve been out in various forms, over multiple platforms (nes, snes, ps1, ps2, and soon to be PS3) since the 80′s, so bad that the only other recurring game franchise that tops it is what…the Mario series? Your ‘opinions’ on the GT series, or FF Series are irrelevant. The fact that they’ve run as long as they have, and pushed as many consoles and software units as they have, is a testament to their quality.

Halo set alot of first day, and week sales numbers, that’s for sure. But, to think that it’s accrued as much capitol gain as the FF series has, in it’s short life cycle, is a ludicrous statement. It’s honestly an unfair comparison, but it’s the only real comparison that can be made to show how popular titles can sell quickly.

Now the last couple FF’s have been disappointing, but still, they’ve made tons of money on them. And just as with Final Fantasy VII’s hype on the PS1 (which was massive), so will Final Fantasy 13′s hype be equally as massive. New console, new engine, the possibility that Cloud (from FFVII) will be in it. Seriously, you’ve no idea what you’re talking about here, and just making it some sort of Halo vs the world grudge match. Go for it. Just don’t be surprised to see the avalanche of sales these titles amass.

One last thing as of November 2007, according to the NPD numbers, Halo 3 had sold 433,000 units worldwide. That’s not even remotely close to ANY of the sales numbers on the FF series or GT series as a whole.

  • http://www.putfile.com/halo-xtreme 2900d4u

ur talking about the sales of years i’m talking about the first week. the first week more than 2.7 million ONLY ONLINE gamers have played halo 3.
at the end of the first week gamers have been playing 4,500 years of continuous gameplay, online. Since Halo 3 launched, online gamers have unlocked nearly 30 million achievements and in the first week bungie studios made 300 milion dollar. To date, more than 20 million copies of the games in the Halo trilogy have been sold worldwide.
Record week-one sales come on the heels of the previously announced $170 million in sales in the U.S. within the first 24 hours of the game’s release.

but yeah ur right i don’t know were i’m talking about on FF.

  • Mornelithe

True, however, it’s widely recognized that the Halo series to date (excluding any future release) has blown it’s load. IE, sales of Halo 3 still aren’t ‘surging’. So, the odds of the ‘franchise’ of Halo, getting anywhere near the GT Series, let alone the Final Fantasy Series, is zero to none. Not that the sales figures in history matter much for the PS3 taken up front. What I’m more referring to is the fan base, such as with Halo, you have to think that given the amount of units FF and GT have sold in the past (more than Halo 1 – 3 combined), will have a drastic impact upon PS3 consoles moved, due to exclusivity.

Given the popularity and consumer demand for the aforementioned titles, you have to believe that at least HALF of the previous sales will hold true. Now, that’s either a ton of new users buying PS3′s for GT, or it’s roughly half of the current installed base purchasing the game. Either way, impressive numbers. As for FF, same goes, the franchise itself has touched nearly as many as Mario (nearly.. lol). It’s surely no more than a year younger… So, given the hype that’s already surrounding the ‘White Engine’ and FFXIII, you can’t sit there and logically deny that these two games represent a massive fan base, which eclipses Halo.

Add MGS4 into the mix (recently re-confirmed as exclusive to the PS3 by Konami), the fact that it’s drawn so much attention from Xbox users (there are a numerous threads on Xbox forums regarding it), again, you’re talking a pretty old franchise, that’s only coming to one system w/in a decent amount of time anyway, that should drive more demand for the PS3. Anyway, the unfair analogy had to be drawn as again, there really aren’t any other fair games to equate what the FF, GT and MGS series represent to the Sony fan base and the PS3 console. Other than Mario I guess, but he’s so far ahead of any of these games that…not even a chance to compare there.

    @Morne
As much as I appreciate your well-reasoned arguments, I don’t you and your friends are an accurate sample of the population. Sadly i think the PS3′s attach rate is worse than the wii’s (at least according to the ign pie chart thingee) and the reason given for this is that many, not all, ps3 owners urchased the system because it is the cheapest bluray player on the market.

I had not seen that the PS3 has more exclusives than the other two combined, and I’m actually pretty sceptical on that point.

By the way, and I mean this in all honesty not as an arguing point, can you tell me why metal gear solid 4 is going to be a huge system seller for the PS3? I keep hearing online that it’s going to sell more units than bread sells toasters, but I see it as a niche market product. It looks great graphically, but story wise makes no sense at all. That’s probably because it’s the fourth in the series. All the same I hear people on the internet rant and rave while the people I ask have never heard of it. Obviously that’s not an accurate sampling of the population, but do you hear a lot of offline hye building around it? Also what’s the deal with making online a sepparate game and charging full price? I think that will alienate more people than it will sell to.
In the end long time fans will buy (most of whom have a ps3), people who already have the ps3 and think the graphics are cool will buy, and people with too much cash and time on their hand will buy. That’s not really a huge system seller to me.
    Am I missing something here?

  • Zman the Wise

What des everyonew hink about the rumor that nintendo is planning to be the first out the gate with the wii2? As soon as the wii stops selling out (after a year? it’s insane!) they’ll intruduce the wii 2 which will be next gen (ps3, 360 and wii being current) 1-2 years before the competition. I think it makes sense if you look at the wii as a test product, recycle gamecube parts with more ram etc., test the waters for motion controll, see how it does at no risk to the company (at least not the risk they would have suffered putting out a machine as powerful as the ps3 or 360). What’s the concensus, possibility or bull?

  • Mornelithe

Z-Man – The Metal Gear series has definitely been picking up in popularity as time goes, and the recent attention it’s been given in the media is only helping it gain hype going into 2008.

The numerous rumors floating around online regarding it going to the 360, and the subsequent squashing of said rumors by Konami yesterday only proves that there are enough 360 owners who want to play this that’ve created enough of a stink to warrant such a public response.

Again, the bigger picture here is you’ve got MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII, and Gran Turismo 5 coming out in the same year, along with a slew of other nicely hyped exclusives, that look to be very promising. People have been crying about the lack of AAA titles on the PS3 and those 3 mentioned before, are all AAAA at least. hehe. And I’m not even touching a bunch of other really cool games or features that should be amazing once utilized properly.

By the way, MGS4 and MGSO will come bundled. Not sure where you get your information from, but it’s dated.
