Superman Screenwriters Will Not Return For Sequel

It has been reported that Superman Returns screenwriters Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris have bowed out from penning a sequel. Does this mark the end for Superman? How long will it be before Bryan Singer jumps ship? I’ve got a feeling it won’t be long before he does.

Warner Bros is now taking story pitches for Man of Steel. Before going into production on Valkyrie, Singer made comments about how well the preproduction on a Man of Steel was going. Well, something has upset the balance and dramatically changed things. One theory making the rounds is that the studio was unhappy with Dougherty and Harris’ take on Man of Steel. It was obvious that they weren’t thrilled with Superman Returns.

Another rumour is that the studio is interested in replacing Returns star Brandon Routh and start fresh with a new take on the Man of Steel - as if the previous film never happened.

Warner Bros are denying the Hollywood rumours, and the studio insists that Brandon Rough is likely to return as the Man of Steel.

I think an overhaul may be what the film needs and I selfishly want to see a new Superman (Tom Welling perhaps?).

What are your thoughts? How would your Superman sequel pan out?

I’ll be more than happy if they reboot this….and even more if Welling and Durance join this new era…Superman/Clark and Lois must be a SuperMAN and a WOMAN not a copule of 12 year old kids

I thought Superman Returns was highly underrated. As a purist of the original Donner movie, I guess I liked how the two tied well together. Routh was a good choice; Tom Welling is solid in Smallville, not sure how well that’ll translate into a big screen Superman with tights.

Whatever happens, here’s hoping the next Superman movie is good!
