Matt Damon To Return As Jason Bourne?

Jason Bourne has become one of the most popular spies in cinematic history. The third and supposedly final Bourne was released this summer and grossed $404 million. Star of the films, Matt Damon had no problem in telling people a while ago that he would not return for a fourth Jason Bourne movie.

At the time, Damon said,

“We have ridden that horse as far as we can.” He admitted to feeling like “a bit of a prostitute for putting out two number threes in one year.”

Now, we don’t know what the reason is, but Damon now seems to be considering the idea of a possible fourth film. Talking to Agence France Presse in Tokyo, Matt said,

“Personally, the character means a lot to me because the character has done so much for my career. You know, it put me in the position where I have a lot more choices of kind of movies I want to make.

If Paul Greengrass, maybe years down the road, was interested in doing another one, then I would do it, too. I don’t think either of us completely put the character to bed yet.”

The three Bourne movies have made a staggering $900 million at the box office worldwide. It’s likely that money is partly the reason for Matt Damon’s change of heart.

The films are based on Robert Ludlum’s novels. Ludlum sadly passed away in 2001. Since then, Eric Van Lustbader has written two sequels to Ludlem’s Bourne series (The Bourne Legacy in 2004 and The Bourne Betrayal in 2007). Both sequels have had a lukewarm reception from readers, so maybe it would be a good idea for Hollywood to create their own story to keep the franchise alive.
