Timecop Remake Planned

It has been reported that Dark Horse Entertainment and Universal are hoping to go into production on a remake of Timecop. Yes, it was cheesy, yes, it had Jean-Claude Van Damme but you can’t say it wasn’t good!

The movie grossed $100 million worldwide and was Van-Damme’s highest grossing film of all time. It even had a spin-off TV series (albeit short-lived) on ABC in 1997.

2003 saw a direct-to-dvd sequel which was called Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision and starred Jason Scott Lee and Thomas Ian Griffith.

In the original, Van Damme played a Time Enforcement Agent who was part of a specialized police organization. Van Damme’s character finds himself torn as he knows it is possible to prevent his wife’s death, but his job as a Time Enforcement Agent prevents him from acting on such a prevention.

With a good screenwriter, the film could be amazing. Van Damme will not be brought back for the remake, which is great as the actor currently circling the role is “100% bad ass and one of the coolest action stars of today”, apparently!

What do you think of a Timecop remake?

Timecop was indeed one of the best JCVD movies. I’m sure the days of a JCVD on the big screen will come back.
