A Sony official has reported that Sony will be selling its advanced computer chip operations to Toshiba. The official went on to say that finer details would be released later in the day.
Rumours were rife that the struggling Sony Corp has been seeking to turn around its core electronics sector. This means they would sell some parts of the business, including its chip manufacturing operations.
So, what does the sale include? Well it includes the manufacturing business for the Call chip used in Sony’s latest PlayStation 3 video game console and other sophisticated gadgets.
It was reported in a Japanese newspaper that the companies agreed to the deal, which will be completed by March and estimated at nearly 100 billion yen ($964.5 million)
Hiroko Mochida, spokeswoman for Toshiba, said she was looking into the report but declined to comment further.
