Plane Rules To Change For Mobile Phones

Industry safety regulators have always banned the use of mobile phones on board planes because of fears the signal would interfere with the plane’s electronic and communications equipment, Now soon you could be using your mobile phone on planes just as easily as you do on the High Street due to new proposals.

The company ofcom said that it should be up to the individual airlines if mobile phones are allowed to use their mobiles on flights. After a two year investigation by Plane maker Airbus, which it has shown that mobiles can be used on planes without interfering with navigation systems.

This will be all possible as all the plane needs is an on-board ‘base station’ this will make the phone signal weak enough not to interfere with other equipment on the plane, but once boosted by the mini-mast, strong enough to make a call.

If all goes to plan UK-registered airlines could make mobile phone services available in-flight as early as next year, subject to approval by the aviation authorities.
