New Line Cinema has announced it has bought the rights to a fact-based story about a US soldier who died in Iraq. The story, about Jeffery Toczylowski (or ‘Toz to his friends) who was an army special forces captain who died in 2005 after falling from a helicopter.
Prior to the accident, Toz had asked a colleague to send a pre-prepared message to his friends and family if he were to die. The message read,
“If you are getting this email, it means that I have passed away. No, it’s not a sick Toz joke, but a letter I wanted to write in case this happened.”
It went on to invite them all to a party, telling them about the $100,000 fund he had set up in order to pay for it.
The film will be entitled Time Of Your Life with a script written by Jim Burnstein and Garret Schiff. Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill Entertainment will produce.
Producer Godfrey, talking about the story behind the film, said,
“In a world where hopelessness and cynicism rule, this family found healing through celebration, and their story reminds us of the heroism and patriotism that mark the best this country has to offer.”
This film certainly sounds interesting, with the direction Hollywood is currently going then I expect this Iraq-inspired film would do very well indeed.
