Now, Cigarette boats may not be your thing, they’re certainly not mine, but the biopic that Tony Scott is planning on the watercraft’s inventor sounds like it has potential to become very interesting indeed.
Don Aranow was a powerboat racing champion for a decade. He invented the powerful extension cigarette boat which was popular in the 1980’s with Colombian drug smugglers who wanted to move their produce into Miami in style.
Don Aranow was eventually given a contract worth $20 million by the US government to build boats which could catch the smugglers. He was gunned down very soon after. Now, before you think the plot is a little on the week side, remember that with Tony Scott at the helm, it’s bound to be exciting.
It seems Scott is packing his diary with a lot of pre-strike options. Could this movie slide on the back burner is one of his many other prospects gets a kick into production? He’s just about to start the remake of The Taking of Pelham 123 with Denzel Washington. After than, he’s planning a remake of The Warriors and then there’s a possibility of a film called Lucky Strike.
It will be pot luck deciding which one hits theaters first!
