SAW V And SAW VI To Be Made Back-To-Back

It’s coming up to Halloween so that only means one thing, it’s SAW time. It has been reported that Saw 5 is ready to go. David Hackl, production designer-turned-director, is working closely with the scribes of Saw IV Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton on the next chapter. The first draft should be due by the end of the month. Fast tracking extreme!
Now, unconfirmed reports claim that Lionsgate are hoping to shoot SAW V and SAW VI back-to-back, with Hackl and crew already signed on to both. It seems Lionsgate want both films in the can before the potential strike next year. Of course, shooting the films back-to-back will cut costs but it’s still risky - what if SAW 5 isn’t as profitable as it’s predecessors?
Looking at the success of the previous films, it seems like it’s a good bet to take:
- SAW was made for $1.2 million. It made $103 million worldwide
- SAW II was made for $4 million and made $147 million worldwide
- SAW III was made for $10 million and grossed $164 million worldwide
Do you see the pattern?
I think it’s highly unlikely that the future SAW films will bomb at the box office. But, would you go and see more SAW films?
