It wasn’t so long ago that we told you Nicolas Cage would be player a wrestler in new movie, The Wrestler. It seems one job isn’t enough for Cage who has also signed on to new movie The Vanished.
In the film, Cage will play a father who goes searching for his “American born Muslim son” who is missing overseas. Sounds very much like the story of John Walker Lindh, the American college student who went to live in Afghanistan and fight alongside the Taliban.
The film will be the English-language directional debut for Hany Abu-Assad, the Palestinian-born director of Paradise Now. The film is set to shoot in April, after Cage finishes The Wrestler for Darran Aronofsky, just before the ‘great Hollywood strike’ in June.
I think the film sounds very promising indeed. However, if the plot is about a Lindh-type character then it could be very similar to In The Valley of Elah by Paul Haggis. I’m sure once more plot details come in, we’ll have a clearer view on whether or not this film will stand on its own and be a totally unique story.
