Growing up in a family in the 1950’s wasn’t a piece of cake, especially in the rest of your family is white and you are black. Being living proof of your mother’s infidelity wouldn’t really help either – here Rosie Childs explains what her life was like.

Neglected and ignored whilst in the care of her mother, Clare and her siblings were left mostly to fend for themselves. Beaten by her step-father Clare and her brother and sisters were placed in care.

Clare suffers many hardships along the way. The main problem is the depression that she suffers, which consumes her. The only way she can ever hope to live a normal life is to face her past.

This was an interesting read which leaves you thinking ‘maybe life’s not that bad’!
