Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married? Rules Box Office

Tyler Perry has done it. His latest movie, Why Did I Get Married?, had a $21.5 million opening in the US, giving him his fourth big opening -even though his films have tiny budgets.

Tyler Perry was originally a playwright who often performed his own work. Perry’s movies are based on good Christian family values, preaching the benefits of sitting down and talking about things.

Why Did I Get Married? was the only real big earner, with the rest of the box office under-performing. The Game Plan, starring The Rock, earned $11.5 million in its third week, making a total of $60 million. Mark Wahlberg and Joaquin Phoenix’s crime drama We Own The Night had a mediocre opening weekend taking $11 million. The hotly anticipated follow up to Oscar-winning Elizabeth, Elizabeth: The Golden Age didn’t fair as its regal predecessor earning a meagre $6.183 million.
