Nicholas Cage has been quite a regular on our screens recently with big movies like Ghost Rider, Next and the new National Treasure sequel. He is set to return in a cool, respectable, indie film which will hopefully remind us that this guy can actually act. Cage is in talks to join the cast of The Wrestler, a film currently in development with Darren Aronofsky’s Protozoa Picture.
The film will follow the story of Randy “The Ram” Robinson, an ‘80’s wrestler who is on a downward spiral even before his minor heart attack during a match. After being told that another fight could kill him, he retires, opens a deli and moves in with a stripper and her son. The prospect of a match with his old nemesis, The Ayatollah, seems impossible for “The Ram” to resist.
The script was written by Robert Siegel with a huge possibility that Aronofsky will direct (it is his production company after all!).
Do you think Cage is up to the challenge of becoming a wrestler? It sounds like an interesting movie, definitely something I would go and watch (but hey, that’s just me!).
