Paedophiles Warned Not To Leave Their House On Halloween

For many parents whose children go trick or treating at Halloween it’s a worrying time. Although I would always accompany my children if they went trick or treating many go alone and with stories constantly in the news about abductions and paedophiles it’s hard to get into the spooky spirit.
Paedophiles in Maryland are now being made to put signs on their houses in an attempt to keep trick-or-treating children away from them over Halloween. Offenders will be provided with a signs saying “No Candy At This Residence” hoping children will not knock on their doors.
The October 31st holiday is a fun time for children, they get to dress up as their favourite scary monster and eat a tonne of candy but in cities like Baltimore, which is home to over 200 offenders, it can be a dangerous time.
Elizabeth Bartholomew is a spokeswoman for the Division of Parole and Probation and has said,
“We actually print out the signs for the offenders and hand them to them, we expect them to post the signs.”
Not only do offenders receive the signs, they also get a letter advising them to stay home from 6pm on Halloween until the following morning and to leave their lights off and refuse to answer doors.
This initiative is enforced in many other states, and has proved successful,
“Last year, no sex offenders in Maryland violated their parole or probation.”
What do you think of this new initiative? Will you be letting your child trick-or-treat alone this year?
