Chris Pine To Play Captain Kirk In Star Trek?

Yesterday we reported that Eric Bana had been cast as the new villain in JJ Abrams Star Trek movie. Well, it seems yesterday was a busy day for Star Trek casting because, finally, JJ Abrams has found an actor with the charisma and talent to fill Shatners boots and play a young Captain James T. Kirk. And girls, he’s hot!

But Chris Pine, who was the best thing in Lindsay Lohan’s Just My Luck, will only be able to take the role of Kirk if he can juggle the filming schedules with another high-profile movie, White Jazz.

Star Trek will start shooting in November and continues through to March. White Jazz, the James Ellroy novel adaptation, starts shooting in January. But, never far, it seems both camps are trying to sort things out so Pine can star in both films! Phew!

Just in case things don’t go to plan, JJ Abrams and Paramount will be lining up back-up actors to play Kirk. I hope Pine can play the role, not just because he’s talented, but because he is by far the best option put forward for the role so far.
