Reports have revealed that a 14-year-old student has gone on a shooting rampage this afternoon inside of an East Cleveland high school and shot six people. Three of these were teachers. It has not been confirmed but the shooter is reported dead.
The student supposedly went on the rampage because he was upset over being suspended.
Mayor Frank Jackson told reporters “We have no reason to believe there’s more than one suspect,” he went on to say that the school was secure.
The extent of the injuries incurred by the three teachers and children are unknown but all of the children are in a stable condition, says the mayor.
Ronnell Jackson, 15, has said he saw a shooter running down a hall at SuccessTech Academy,
“He was about to shoot me but I got out just in time,” he said. “He was aiming at me I got out just in time.”
Mother of two pupils at the school, Tammy Mundy, 38, told a local paper how her daughter called when the shooting started.
“She said, ‘Mom they’re shooting in here, kids are running out, I’m hiding in the closet,”
After knowing her daughter was safe, she immediately phoned her 18-year-old son, who told her he had been shot in the arm.
Students stood outside the school, with many in hysterics on their cell phones. Anxious family members stood outside the school waiting for their children to be released.
SuccessTech Academy is a downtown alternative high school in the Cleveland city school district. There are about 240 mainly black students with a small number of white and Hispanic students. All the students are poor under federal poverty guidelines.
