Why are people addicted to Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan?

Every time I look at any celebrity news site, I mostly see Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan. The press seem to focus on this pair most of the time and they make up the bulk of posts on news blogs of late.
Is it because people are addicted to Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan or is it because they manage to pull press coverage thanks to their behavior.
With Lindsay hitting rehab and rumoured to have slept with another guest and talking drugs in rehab, then Britney’s personal life seems to pull everyone’s interest, which is topped of with her VMA performance.
So here are a couple of questions to see why you read news about these two celebs:
1) Are you a Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan fan?
2) Do you just love the news about them?
3) You cannot stand them?

I am a fan of both celebrities that is why I need to know the latest news about them. However, I wonder why ‘non-fans’ are so into the news as well. If it is with the behaviour or the fact some do not love, should it not be apathy that these people should express (if only apathy is expressible).
