300 screenwriter Michael Gordon has been hired by Sony to pen an adaptation of the popular online role-playing game EverQuest. Avi Arad, former Marvel Studios head, is producing the film for Columbia Pictures.
EverQuest was released in March 1999 and became the most popular massive multiplayer online role-playing game before World of Warcraft came along. EverQuest, at its peak, had more than 450,000 paying subscribers.
I’m not too sure how a big screen adaptation of EverQuest will pan out. Surely it will be just the same as all the other movies which borrowed from Dungeons and Dragons? I may get proven wrong, but Michael Gordon will have to pull something very special indeed out of the bag for this to become a blockbuster hit.
