Nissan to recall over 370,000 Infiniti QX4s and Pathfinders: Potential fire hazard
According to report by edmunds.com Nissan is to recall 372,250 Infiniti QX4s and Pathfinders, the reason for the recall is due to the fact that these models from 1997-2001 have an insufficient coating on the fuel filler tube of the cars. The cars that are being recalled are mainly in the Northeast area where there are huge amounts of salt on the roads in the winter.

In a NHTSA report if an opening develops on the metal fuel filler tube lower mounting bracket, then salt and water can corrode it. It is thought that if it gets so bad then a hole will develop in the tube and a gas leak will then become a fire hazard.

The recalls of the Infiniti QX4s and Pathfinders applies to vehicles that were either sold or registered in the states of:

  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Iowa
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Massachusetts
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • New Hampshire
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • Tennessee
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia
  • Wisconsin and the District of Columbia

Nissan dealers have said that they will replace the faulty assembly.
