The McCann’s Cool Composure Hid Their Inner Turmoil

A former adviser to the McCann’s has revealed that Gerry and Kate’s composure after Madeleine vanished was only masking their private turmoil. Alex Woolfall, an expert in crisis PR for communications group Bell Pottinger, has said they reacted exactly as he would expect and left him in no doubt about their innocence.
Talking to British newspaper The Times, Woolfall said,
“They were behaving exactly as I thought someone in that situation would be. They had not slept. They were trying to work out what to do that might help generate images of her.
“They were not at all controlled. When I was with them, they were between being completely distraught and trying to do what they felt was the right thing.”
Alex was employed by the Mark Warner holiday resort in Praia de Luz where Madeleine disappeared on May 3. He aided the couple choose photos of the child for the media and prepare a statement appealing for help.
The couple have always protested their innocence, even when the Portuguese police named the couple as suspects.
Earlier this week Kate McCann wanted to thanks members of the public who had sent the family messages of support. She said,
“I’ve had days when, if I wasn’t crying about Madeleine, I was crying from the letters and messages people have sent to us. It has helped so much.”
