Illegal music downloads costs woman $220,000 in damages for file-sharing through Kazaa

Since 2003 record companies have filed a total of 26,000 lawsuits over file-sharing, with many people settling out of court, but Jammie Thomas decided not to settle out of court and has come out far worse than she would have done.
Richard Gabriel who is the chief lawyer for many music companies said that this does send a message, I hope, that downloading and distributing our recordings is not OK.” The recording industry is in trouble as more and more people download music illegally, but they are doing all they can to deter people from using file-sharing sites like Kazaa.
