Artificial corneas: Research shows it could save sight
For years millions of dollars have been spent in research into helping saving a person’s eyesight, and now it seems as if one EU-funded CORNEA project has been able to develop an artificial cornea that could very well do this. Many of the trails are showing promise as scientists from Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP and also the Department of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital of Regensburg have been working so hard to achieve.

Scientists used a polymer that is available commercially which does not absorb water and the polymer does not allow cell growth either, so what that means is this new cornea implant will fit perfectly onto your natural cornea. Early versions of this implant has been tested on the eyes of rabbits and if these test keep going smoothly then we could see these artificial corneas on humans sometime next year.
