Ehren Kruger, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are in negotiations to team up and write the screenplay for DreamWorks/Paramount’s Transformers 2. Already back in their chairs are director Michael Bay, star Shia LaBeouf and producers Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Don Murphy. Executive producer Steven Spielberg is also back for the film.
The teaming will not be a case of complete strangers being thrust into a room and made to write together, as the three super-scribes are currently working together on “Nightlife”, a DreamWorks serial-killer project. The film is a Thomas Perry adaptation which Kruger is writing and Orci and Kurtzman producing.
However, the writing deal is not closed yet but reports say it is in the $5 - 7 million range - could this be an industry high for a nonoriginal screenplay?
The price reflects the pressure these guys will be under. The studio hopes to make the movie before the potential strike so the writers will be typing super-fast.
